In the final tuneup before the regular season kicks off tomorrow, the A's backups looked sharp and ready for action. Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez only pitched two innings. He apparently considers himself fully ready for the regular season, because he used this appearance to experiment with right-handed pitching. The results weren't good, as he allowed seven runs and walked three, but hopefully he learned something that can be applied to one of his real starts this year.
By the end of the game, Josh Donaldson was the only player that was eligible and healthy that didn't make an appearance tonight, and the only starters that played the full nine were Akinori Iwamura and Rajai Davis.
Also, congratulations to Eric Sogard, who got his first Cactus League Major League hit off of Dusty Hughes.
Tomorrow, the A's start meaningful baseball as they take on the Kansas City Royals at 5:10 PM.
