Glen Kuiper and Ray Fosse were gushing about Dallas Braden during today's game. Braden is awesome but the announcers harping on his big heart And saying he has below average stuff is tiresome and wrong. He does not have below average stuff. What Braden has is a fastball which has a below average velocity. He also has a devastating changeup, a good curveball and great control. He is among the league leaders in fewest walks per 9 innings pitched. He also does "believe in his stuff". Which is an annoying euphemism for he throws all his pitches any time in the count. He isn't afraid of anything out there and his mound presence is good. Of course mound presence and his huge Heart would be useless without the pitches he throws.
