The things that made me maddest
Did Suzuki really call for an 0-1 fastball to Kotchman, when they weren’t touching Brett’s curve all night? Did Capt. Bobo really walk the righty to get to Kotchman in the first place…. isn’t Anderson an elite pitcher who can get guys out hitting from either side?
Geren ought to be fired JUST on the basis of his imbecilic use of L/R split matchups this season, period. This loss says it all, that mediocrity and just doing the most obvious dumbass things are acceptable. Bases loaded vs. Felix in the 1st and nothing, they should be embarrassed… did you see when Figgins got the hit in the 8th where Barton CONGRATULATED him at first, tapped him on the chest with the glove and said “great knock”? THAT is the competitive spirit, eh?
Hello, I'm Vince Cotroneo for the Marmaduke B. Mushmouth School of Public Speaking...
You know who has the competitive spirit?

Geren is an imbecile.
Other than that it’s hard to complain about getting carved up by one of the best pitchers in the game. Our ace wasn’t too shabs himself.

and you can add Mark Ellis to that list
At least Cust can hit the ball out of the infield
Suzuki is 3 for his last 26
Barton is 6 for his last 24
Ellis is 5 for his last 26
Kouz is 6 for his last 26
Rajai is 7 for his last 25

I only brought him up
Because of EN’s comment above. I had already stated about 30 times how sickening the whole offense was.
Chris Carter will continue to get a pass. He will be fine. Hope he gets his first hit tomorrow. No one is expecting miracles from him. He’s learning on the job. I certainly will not be criticizing him no matter what he does.
The others are a different matter.
For sure....This offense sucks..and part of our problem is that if you asked Beane all he would say is...well we didn't expect much offense this year...

It's borderline criminal to have
close to the best pitching in the AL and have a record like ours.
If someone told us we would have the team pitching like this at the start of the season, we would think that we would be leading the division.
during the game I told my dtr....all we need.....
with this pitching we could be golden IF only…..
"Are those new tarps? Or did they paint 'em?" Mark Ellis
Yeah that is the real problem I have with this...how long will these guys be good like this...and we could have solved this somewhat in the offseason with a little bit of offensive help!

I don't see Ellis and Cust here next year
Beane did try to get Beltre and Co to make the offense better but they declined. Turns out Beltre has made a smart move taking one year.
I'm so fucking glad Scutaro didn't sign.
Then I’d have to be going crazy because he remembered that he’s MARCO FUCKING SCUTARO and reverted back to his .700 OPS self again.

Hey AN
Can we talk about the magic chi magnet necklaces half the A’s players wear – and if some trainer – or whoever – is recommending the A’s wear them – can we start talking about how maybe that’s the reason the A’s are a MASH unit? Could it be they have a witch doctor pretty much sacrificing chickens on their hamstrings in the clubhouse?

And probably more than any one person. So I’ll take the crazy guy blaming Wolff for everything over the crazy guy blaming Cust.

eh. it's such a fuckin tired argument though.
and really, if he was a lame duck owner he wouldn’t be at games, he wouldn’t leave the owners box and go sit in the stands, etc
without getting political, i tend to give him the benefit of the doubt a little bit. california is so ass backwards that we could develop the cure for cancer and somebody somewhere in the state would protest it being manufactured here.
I believe he honestly has tried to get a stadium done somewhere, I think he got shit on by Oakland anyway. Maybe he wanted San Jose all along, and frankly I don’t give a damn either way.
Pam liked my old sig better.
If the argument wasn't so tired, I'd probably ask you
What is it, specifically, that’s going poorly for the A’s that you wouldn’t attribute to Wolff – and – who would you attribute it to?
But I’d only ask you that if the argument was fresh – or if it was in person, in the coliseum parking lot, and I had some dark rum. Sweet, sweet dark rum.

RUM.
I mean, this is kinda how I see it: The majority of people who complain about Lew Wolff don’t have much knowledge about what’s been going on since he took over. Basically, Lew is evil for these reasons:
- tarps
- low attendance
- payroll
- fremont and san jose
- not trying hard enough to get a stadium built in oakland
It’s just the same things over and over, nothing new ever really comes out, and it’s just tired.
Maybe I’m totally wrong. Maybe this whole situation IS a gigantic conspiracy and Wolff really is the MLB version of Rachel Phelps… but… Occam’s Razor, etc.
Pam liked my old sig better.

Look, MichaelV
There are deep political philosophical and political underpinnings to all this. You’re supposed to blame rich people for nearly every bad thing. Not blaming rich people for nearly every bad thing is a fundamental acquiescence to the power structure that seeks to control you.
Of course, it may well be that the very act of protest is, at this point in history, just another system of control put in place to make those of us who wish to protest feel like we have some shred of control over our pitiful destinies.
All I’m saying is I’d rather listen to the crazy guy blaming Wolff than the crazy guy blaming Cust.

This may sound like I’m being overly picky, but I keep getting the feeling that most of the girls I meet (I’m college aged and all) are shallow and act really young for their age. Kinda hoping that changes a few years down the road.

it will take age and wisdom for you to embrace the you of you and not constantly be comparing yourself to others, this is the lot of the teenager and some people never break out of it, even at advanced ages.
But hear me: you have a cute face and just a warm, sincere vibe to you, an earnestness that shows through. Like I said you should just work on losing 25 pounds and make every day a meditation on how you can learn to accept yourself and things’ll be fine… remember that people are like musicians are to music about looks: they only see/hear the flaws, but it’s imprtant to realize that one of the truest principles of life and living is that WE NEVER SEE OURSELVES AS OTHERS SEE US so take your self-criticicizing instinct with a grain of salt, always,

the key is exercise and diet, Cheese-ums
you have to eat enough - not too much -- and you HAVE to exercise like a MF’er, esp. with your genetic profile.
You’ll get there, just focus on the positives within yourself and don’t get too hung up on body image peripherals… just work on it honestly and the pounds will fall off.

I don't think anyone thinks those are serious options
If we are going to say Taylor is ready, then we are probably looking at a Carter/Raj/Taylor outfield. Sweeney would be the 4th OFer.
If we sign Werth or Crawford all bets are off. Werth would DH. Crawford plays LF and Carter DHs if he’s here.

Yes, But if the A's roll out this lineup next year then I am done, seriously:
Crisp CF
Barton 1B
Suzuki C
Cust DH
Kouzmanoff 3B
Carter LF
Ellis/Rosales 2B
Pennington SS
Davis/Sweeney RF
What I’m saying is that this lineup sure looks a lot like what we have rolled out there everyday this year…and it hasnt really worked out for us this year..I just dont understand how this can be acceptable..
There is no A in OFFENSE!!
by wacchampions on Aug 10, 2010 11:52 PM PDT up reply actions
The way I see it,
is that Beane is waiting until the pitching is rock solid before committing $$$ to hitters. To compete, we need great pitching and great hitting, because we don’t have the money to cover for any mistakes. And if the great pitching and the great hitting don’t happen at the same time, we’re stuck in a 85-win holding pattern for ten years.
But now is that time. The pitching is ready for 2011. If Beane plugs some hitters into the equation, we should be all set.
I totally agree with you....the team that surround the big three had some of those kinds of hitters and they were much more successful.
"Are those new tarps? Or did they paint 'em?" Mark Ellis
This is exactly what I am trying to get across...If we dont put this together...like now (offseason) then we are just stuck in this pattern where one year we have hitting and one year we have pitching but we never put it together in the SAME year

Well.
So my parents want to take me out of school, and put me in a JC. And, they’re being unsurprisingly Asian about it. But to me, that’s not an option…

Yeah, I go to UoP.
Uhh, financial stuff, and they don’t think that I’m good enough for dental school.
It really sucks because this is super last minute.
Simply put, they’re not going to pay for my college tuition next semester, so I have to pull out student loans out of my ass, and end up screwed later in life if I fuck up dentistry.
Zing!

that is a bummer....UOP is a great school. You're probab;y too young to be independent.....
to be fair….the costs of college at a 4-year will put you in that place – pre-dent or not! Do they have a joint program in Pre-dent there like they do in Pharm?
"Are those new tarps? Or did they paint 'em?" Mark Ellis
Yeah, I love it there. I was thinking independent, but I’m still relying on them for insurance and stuff like that.
And yes, they do. It’s actually the main reason why I go to school there.

have you been doing well in your classes? or is it that they don’t want you to pursue dentistry?
"Are those new tarps? Or did they paint 'em?" Mark Ellis
Well, if you’re talking going to a JC-wise, it’s really not. I’ll end up spending an extra year at Pacific undergrad anyways..
I’m doing alright. Not great by Asian standards. I’ve actually dug myself a hole, but I know that I can dig myself out of it.

used books? tuna for dinner? If it’s anything like UC the tuition is almost twice what it was when my dtr started. UOP might have some other sources for funding since they are a private school. Good Luck!
"Are those new tarps? Or did they paint 'em?" Mark Ellis
Will they apply for financial aid?
You could at least get some cheap loans that way

Yeah, we finished FAFSA and everything, but all the loans are either parent loans or student loans, and the student loans don’t nearly cover enough.

by dentistintraining on Aug 11, 2010 12:25 AM PDT up reply actions
Wow.
Yeah, the only thing I can say is try to get some student loans. I know a private school is really expensive, but if they’re not going to pay for it…I’m not sure what else you can do. If you did go the JC route, what would your plans be afterwards?
Well, honestly, it’d be waste a year taking classes that I don’t need to take, then transferring to…somewhere else, maybe back to Pacific. They said that they’d pay for it then, which I find extremely stupid. But pretty much, my dentist career takes another detour…
Zing!

Are you finished with all of your GE's?
Because if otherwise, finishing them at a JC may not be such a bad idea. For lower-division classes, the education you’d get at a JC is pretty comparable (if not better!) to that of a UC.
Yup, finished the last of them this summer. Which is also another reason why I find going to JC an extremely bad idea.
