The things that made me maddest

Did Suzuki really call for an 0-1 fastball to Kotchman, when they weren’t touching Brett’s curve all night? Did Capt. Bobo really walk the righty to get to Kotchman in the first place…. isn’t Anderson an elite pitcher who can get guys out hitting from either side?

Geren ought to be fired JUST on the basis of his imbecilic use of L/R split matchups this season, period. This loss says it all, that mediocrity and just doing the most obvious dumbass things are acceptable. Bases loaded vs. Felix in the 1st and nothing, they should be embarrassed… did you see when Figgins got the hit in the 8th where Barton CONGRATULATED him at first, tapped him on the chest with the glove and said “great knock”? THAT is the competitive spirit, eh?

Other than that it’s hard to complain about getting carved up by one of the best pitchers in the game. Our ace wasn’t too shabs himself.

Walking the righty to get to Kotchman isn’t really that bad of a move.

I only brought him up

Because of EN’s comment above. I had already stated about 30 times how sickening the whole offense was.

Chris Carter will continue to get a pass. He will be fine. Hope he gets his first hit tomorrow. No one is expecting miracles from him. He’s learning on the job. I certainly will not be criticizing him no matter what he does.

The others are a different matter.

by sleepingcobra on Aug 10, 2010 10:45 PM PDT up reply actions

eh. it's such a fuckin tired argument though.

and really, if he was a lame duck owner he wouldn’t be at games, he wouldn’t leave the owners box and go sit in the stands, etc

without getting political, i tend to give him the benefit of the doubt a little bit. california is so ass backwards that we could develop the cure for cancer and somebody somewhere in the state would protest it being manufactured here.

I believe he honestly has tried to get a stadium done somewhere, I think he got shit on by Oakland anyway. Maybe he wanted San Jose all along, and frankly I don’t give a damn either way.

Pam liked my old sig better.

by mikev on Aug 10, 2010 10:48 PM PDT up reply actions

If the argument wasn't so tired, I'd probably ask you

What is it, specifically, that’s going poorly for the A’s that you wouldn’t attribute to Wolff – and – who would you attribute it to?

But I’d only ask you that if the argument was fresh – or if it was in person, in the coliseum parking lot, and I had some dark rum. Sweet, sweet dark rum.

I think you and me should get an apartment together. - mikev

by sleepingcobra on Aug 10, 2010 10:58 PM PDT up reply actions

RUM.

I mean, this is kinda how I see it: The majority of people who complain about Lew Wolff don’t have much knowledge about what’s been going on since he took over. Basically, Lew is evil for these reasons:

- tarps
- low attendance
- payroll
- fremont and san jose
- not trying hard enough to get a stadium built in oakland

It’s just the same things over and over, nothing new ever really comes out, and it’s just tired.

Maybe I’m totally wrong. Maybe this whole situation IS a gigantic conspiracy and Wolff really is the MLB version of Rachel Phelps… but… Occam’s Razor, etc.

Look, MichaelV

There are deep political philosophical and political underpinnings to all this. You’re supposed to blame rich people for nearly every bad thing. Not blaming rich people for nearly every bad thing is a fundamental acquiescence to the power structure that seeks to control you.

Of course, it may well be that the very act of protest is, at this point in history, just another system of control put in place to make those of us who wish to protest feel like we have some shred of control over our pitiful destinies.

All I’m saying is I’d rather listen to the crazy guy blaming Wolff than the crazy guy blaming Cust.

it will take age and wisdom for you to embrace the you of you and not constantly be comparing yourself to others, this is the lot of the teenager and some people never break out of it, even at advanced ages.

But hear me: you have a cute face and just a warm, sincere vibe to you, an earnestness that shows through. Like I said you should just work on losing 25 pounds and make every day a meditation on how you can learn to accept yourself and things’ll be fine… remember that people are like musicians are to music about looks: they only see/hear the flaws, but it’s imprtant to realize that one of the truest principles of life and living is that WE NEVER SEE OURSELVES AS OTHERS SEE US so take your self-criticicizing instinct with a grain of salt, always,

the key is exercise and diet, Cheese-ums

you have to eat enough - not too much -- and you HAVE to exercise like a MF’er, esp. with your genetic profile.

You’ll get there, just focus on the positives within yourself and don’t get too hung up on body image peripherals… just work on it honestly and the pounds will fall off.

This sounds an awful lot like the same team that we were fielding before that was not scoring runs…

right?

my math is this:

22.7 million (Chavez and Sheets)+30 million (luxury tax)=no more winter excuses, Billy Beane.

by emperor nobody on Aug 10, 2010 11:45 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think anyone thinks those are serious options

If we are going to say Taylor is ready, then we are probably looking at a Carter/Raj/Taylor outfield. Sweeney would be the 4th OFer.

If we sign Werth or Crawford all bets are off. Werth would DH. Crawford plays LF and Carter DHs if he’s here.

Yes, But if the A's roll out this lineup next year then I am done, seriously:

Crisp CF
Barton 1B
Suzuki C
Cust DH
Kouzmanoff 3B
Carter LF
Ellis/Rosales 2B
Pennington SS
Davis/Sweeney RF

What I’m saying is that this lineup sure looks a lot like what we have rolled out there everyday this year…and it hasnt really worked out for us this year..I just dont understand how this can be acceptable..

There is no A in OFFENSE!!

by wacchampions on Aug 10, 2010 11:52 PM PDT up reply actions

The way I see it,

is that Beane is waiting until the pitching is rock solid before committing $$$ to hitters. To compete, we need great pitching and great hitting, because we don’t have the money to cover for any mistakes. And if the great pitching and the great hitting don’t happen at the same time, we’re stuck in a 85-win holding pattern for ten years.

But now is that time. The pitching is ready for 2011. If Beane plugs some hitters into the equation, we should be all set.

Uhh, financial stuff, and they don’t think that I’m good enough for dental school.

It really sucks because this is super last minute.

Simply put, they’re not going to pay for my college tuition next semester, so I have to pull out student loans out of my ass, and end up screwed later in life if I fuck up dentistry.

Uhh..welcome to the pre-dental program, I guess. Crazy shit.

Apparently, I’m taking 24 units my first year at dental school. That’s 8-5, nonstop science classes, then 5-9 simulation lab.
I’m looking forward to sim lab. Working on fake teeth!

I wanted to appeal my rejection to UCD but when I had heard that the UCD staff was in on the budget cuts for UCM/SC, I said fuck that.
I’m not going to a school where they demean people based on the campus they go to.

And eehh, I didn’t really like how the private schools are set up.

It’s like okay, pay us and you’re on your own. The kids that go there seem like they love self-entitlement too. At least from what I’ve seen.

I like the diversity of UCSC. D:

No budget cuts.

And it’s more of a community at a private. Professors, well at UoP anyways, spend more time helping students out. It’s more of a nurture, then a “leave you out in the dark and you’re fucked” type of thing."

Oh, diversity…we got it. 40% Korean, 30% other Asian, 30% White/black/Other.

Yeah, UCSC is a good school.

SC is also known as weed capitol, though…so if you don’t smoke, then you might have a bit of a hard time. My roommate lived in an apartment, where the entire floor consisted of 2 dealers, and the rest were smokers. Kinda ridiculous.

Well, exagerrating, but yeah, it’s CA, always gonna be Asian.

They tend to be really mellow about everything.
At least it’s not UCSB which is known as super party whore galore capitol of all UCs.

There’s a freeway, a mile-ish stretch of nothing, then the campus and a small town next to the water, all isolated from anything else. And the small town is, like, 75% college students. I’m surprised the place hasn’t burned down by now.
