GOG #34 Your Oakland Athletics (50-48) @ Texas Rangers (58-41) [60 points possible]

1. Series Outcome [3 points]

2. After a painful viewing of Dan Haren wearing the foul colors of the Slegna As much as it sucks to see him in Angels gear, let's hope he's OK!, the A's will either be tied with or behind are tied with the Angels coming in to tomorrow's games. Predict if our A's are ahead of, behind, or tied with the Angels in GB at the end of Thursday's games. [2 points]

3. Goatz and Starz and Boatz and Karz. Predict 2 players from each team, one with a positive WPA and one with a negative WPA total throughout the series*. [1 point each, 4 total]

*BONUS RISK/REWARD PORTION (if you choose): Guess those players' WPA accumulated through the series. If you are within +/- .2 WPA of that players total, you get 3 points for your answer. If you don't, you get 0 points, even if you guessed the 1st part correctly.

4. Cliff Lee does not walk people, and when he does, he gets angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry. Does Mr. Lee give up a walk in the series opener ? If he does, to whom (none is not an acceptable answer)? In what inning is he removed? [1 pt., 3 pts, 2 pts., 6 points total]

5. Josh Hamilton is way too good at hitting a baseball. Predict his AB/XBH/K [2 points each, 6 total]

6. Brett Anderson's twitter (here) has been quite an insightful resource as we get all our hard hitting facts and trivia about our stud lefty. Predict the time of his first tweet after the first pitch of the series (+/- 1hour). Brett also currently has 3,438 people following his Twitter. Predict his followers at the end of the series (number must be exact, will be tallied within 20 minutes of end of game 3) [3 points each, 6 total]

7. Jack Cust has seemingly been a question for all the GOGs for the past month. Does he hit a homer? If he does, to which direction of the field? How far (feetwise +/- 20 ft.)? Again, none for the 2nd and 3rd part are not acceptable answers. [1st part- 1 point, 2nd and 3rd- 3 points each: 7 points total]

8. Bengie Molina could quite possibly lose to Landon Powell in a foot race, yet somehow hit for the cycle last week. Does he do it again? hahahahahaha, I kid. Predict his PA, H, BB, K [2 points each, 8 total]

9. Which starting pitcher has the most of each: Hits, Walks, Homers, Runs, Double Plays [2 points each, 10 total]

10. The July 31st trade deadline is fast upon us, and this series really could dictate the direction the A's go the rest of the season. Do the A's make a trade during this series? If yes, then guess the team we will be trading with. Also, guess a player that will be headed to the A's. [1 point/2 points/ 3 points, 6 total]

11. BONUS: Name a player interviewed by Ray and Glenn in the post-game interview (assuming we win at least one) [2 points]

1st pitch is tomorrow at 5:05 PST as Gio faces big bad Cliff Lee. Let's hope for a good one, this could be a big series!

Clarification on #4

If Lee pitches 7 innings, is that getting pulled in the 7th or 8th? On one hand the last pitch he throws is in the 7th inning, but on the other the next pitcher doesn’t replace him until the 8th. Also, if he throws a complete game, is that being pulled in the 9th inning?

if he finishes an inning and doesn’t come back out, then the last inning would count. So, in your hypothetical, it would count as the 7th inning. To answer your 2nd part, if you think he’ll throw a complete game, so CG or 9th inning as your answer…

And, do you accept CG for pitching through 8 or 9? Could be a CG loss for 8 innings.

I haven't wanted to mention this publicly, but isn't it about prime time to let Braden go?

Perhaps he’s not actually worth anything on the market, with 8 toes and an elbow that threatens to disconnect from his body, in his words. And maybe the A’s can’t trade off our post-perfect p.r., either, or look like a-holes. But I sure am less than confident every time his rotation comes up!

More GOGing

I’ll take the liberty of putting up an August GOG-picking FP tomorrow. But for now…

1. Series Outcome [3 points] A’s 2-1
2. After a painful viewing of Dan Haren wearing the foul colors of the Slegna As much as it sucks to see him in Angels gear, let’s hope he’s OK!, the A’s will either be tied with or behind are tied with the Angels coming in to tomorrow’s games. Predict if our A’s are ahead of, behind, or tied with the Angels in GB at the end of Thursday’s games. [2 points] Ahead
3. Goatz and Starz and Boatz and Karz. Predict 2 players from each team, one with a positive WPA and one with a negative WPA total throughout the series*. [1 point each, 4 total] A’s: Cust pos (.2), Blevins neg; Tex: Young pos (.2), Wilson neg

*BONUS RISK/REWARD PORTION (if you choose): Guess those players’ WPA accumulated through the series. If you are within +/- .2 WPA of that players total, you get 3 points for your answer. If you don’t, you get 0 points, even if you guessed the 1st part correctly. see above

4. Cliff Lee does not walk people, and when he does, he gets angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Does Mr. Lee give up a walk in the season opener (none is not an acceptable answer)? If he does, to whom? In what inning is he removed? [1 pt., 3 pts, 2 pts., 6 points total] no, Cust, 7th

5. Josh Hamilton is way too good at hitting a baseball. Predict his AB/XBH/K [2 points each, 6 total] 13/3/3

6. Brett Anderson’s twitter (here) has been quite an insightful resource as we get all our hard hitting facts and trivia about our stud lefty. Predict the time of his first tweet after the first pitch of the series (+/- 1hour). Brett also currently has 3,438 people following his Twitter. Predict his followers at the end of the series (number must be exact, will be tallied within 20 minutes of end of game 3) [3 points each, 6 total] 3 hours, 3471

7. Jack Cust has seemingly been a question for all the GOGs for the past month. Does he hit a homer? If he does, to which direction of the field? How far (feetwise +/- 20 ft.)? Again, none for the 2nd and 3rd part are not acceptable answers. [1st part- 1 point, 2nd and 3rd- 3 points each: 7 points total] Yes, right, 410

8. Bengie Molina could quite possibly lose to Landon Powell in a foot race, yet somehow hit for the cycle last week. Does he do it again? hahahahahaha, I kid. Predict his PA, H, BB, K [2 points each, 8 total] 11/2/1/4

9. Which starting pitcher has the most of each: Hits, Walks, Homers, Runs, Double Plays [2 points each, 10 total] Gio, Gio, Gio, Gio, Cahill

10. The July 31st trade deadline is fast upon us, and this series really could dictate the direction the A’s go the rest of the season. Do the A’s make a trade during this series? If yes, then guess the team we will be trading with. Also, guess a player that will be headed to the A’s. [1 point/2 points/ 3 points, 6 total] no, Boston, Willingham

11. BONUS: Name a player interviewed by Ray and Glenn in the post-game interview (assuming we win at least one) [2 points] Cust
