Cust vs. Matsui

Cust .288/.395/.409 (.804)
Matsui .251/.335/.401 (.736)

by A's Believer on Jul 10, 2010 9:50 PM PDT reply actions

Cust isn't the problem. Runs above average per Fangraphs (Batting + Fielding + Position)

C Suzuki +1
1B Barton +4
2B Rosales +5
SS Pennington +7
3B Kouzmanoff +4
LF Davis -10
CF Crisp +5
RF Sweeney -7
DH Cust +2

The biggest problems were Davis and Sweeney and the fact that no one is particularly great and the bench has played a lot and sucked

I think the A's should seriously look into sitting out Sweeney for the second half and doing the surgery early so he has extra time to recover for next year.

It’s not doing any good running him out there in a lost season. And since a large part of value is tied to his defense (which is dependent on his knees) possible permanent damage to his knees could render him a useless player in the future.

Also, I don't think that Rajai is as horrible as the stats say.

Given that it graphs on position, where LF average is typically power numbers in this era.
