Ok, so what in the world are the A's doing with Jack Cust in the lineup? Better yet even on the big league club? Better yet even in the flippin organization. Designating him was the best move the A's have made in years. Yes he has come up and hit .288, but in 34 games, he also has 34 strikeouts. Heck think of it in terms of situations. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Almost anything will get the runner home EXCEPT a strikeout. Of course, the man we call our biggest power threat on the team, comes up and goes 3-0 then ends up striking out. I honestly do not know how many times I have seen this happen. They brought him up because they said he has improved on not striking out as much. I look at his numbers from the minors and last year and they look quite similar actually. Last year he played in 149 games, 513 ABs and had 185 strikeouts. Lets breakdown these numbers. That means he has about 1.25 Ks per game, in 5 games that is about 6.25 Ks. That means that 36% of his at-bats, he is striking out. That compared to him getting a hit just 23% of the time. In AAA Sac he played 33 games with 33 strikeouts. 1 strikeout per game. Great improvement huh? Hittin just .273 not even in the majors. Where was the improvement? haha In his career, he has played 525 games and how many K's u may ask? 639! CAN YOU SAY WOOOOOW?!?!
All this to say that the A's do in fact have someone in AAA, hitting really well, with previous big league experience with the Angels. Heck, the man even won a world series with them. This man, Dallas McPherson, is currently DHing for our AAA affiliate the Rivercats. He is hitting .291, with 7 HRs. Yes, this is in AAA, but heck, Cust isnt doing anything. The man has been producing for the Cats ever since he has been here and has played great in spring training, trust me, I was down there for it.
Oh and lets not get into the defense haha. In Cust's 12 games in the outfield on defense, he has truly proved why he is never out there and doesnt deserve to be. Yes, only 1 error, but in 12 games? He has no speed to run down any balls, errors dont show that haha. Why not give someone else a shot. Michael Taylor and Chris Carter are not ready, but why not let McPherson have a shot at it. Heck and then Kouz and Barton can get a day off here and there.
Heck, here's another idea, still cut cust and bring up McPherson, but DH Connor Jackson, and have the starting OF be Rajai Davis in left, Coco Crisp in center, and Ryan Sweeney in right. how does that sound?
Im sorry, dont get me wrong, I devote fan, I just really cannot stand seeing Cust in there all the time and just strike 1, 2, and 3. And him gettin booed everygame and still somehow remaining in the starting lineup.
just some food for thought. let me know your thoughts. just interested in my fellow A's fans opinions.
