Cahill's Sinker
Hey enemies for the next three days! Trevor Cahill not only gets a lot of ground balls, but he turns them into outs at a high rate. And it's not just the plus defense behind him. You watch him all the time, is that for real or is he just lucky?

Cahill is a young improving pitcher.
Cahill has improved so much over last year. He can become a frontline pitcher if he averages over 6K per 9 IP. You combine that with all the groundball outs. He has been somewhat lucky on BABIP though this year. Which is .246. Don’t forget that Cahill is holding his own as a 22 year old in the major Leagues. Which is a good sign. He was better at 22 than Greg Maddux was.
Agree 100%
Anyone who says “Cahill doesn’t have a high ceiling because of a bad 2009” really needs to stop. Blame Beane for 2009.
He shouldn’t have been up in the bigs in 2009. He’s not that good now, but most pitchers his age are in AA/AAA right now, not the bigs. Pitchers that are up in MLB at 22 generally have pretty high ceilings.

He was impressive
As advertised, Cahill’s sinker really is good. Changes speeds, moves it around.
Pennington was impressive. Every time I watch an A’s game he makes a good play.

I agree that 2009 was Beanes fault
He shouldn’t have been in the big leagues last year. Right now Cahill is a slightly above average pitcher with a high ceiling. Gio and Trevor have stepped up this year and improved. With Anderson healthy they could contend.
