AN's CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball Update - Why A's Fans Shouldn't Pay Attention to Fantasy Stats
As our quest for the mirror ball trophy continues into May, our 12 teams have started to take shape. You can view the full standings here, but it's important to note that Team BBG (otherwise known as Chicks Dig The Green And Gold) has been hampered by the injury losses of Nelson Cruz and Jimmy Rollins. This is one of those times where what's bad for my Fantasy Baseball team should have been good for the A's in this series; Cruz is one of Texas' best hitters.
The A's are trying to take the series with a win today, and put themselves back in first place.
Cruz, even from the bench, still leads team BBG with his 7 homeruns, but Braun is closing in with 5. Miguel Tejada has done a fine job filling in for Rollins, but have you seen Carlos Gonzalez?
He's batting .330 with an .849 OPS...sigh. If it's any consolation, Gonzalez has stolen four bases, but has been caught three times. Sigh.
How does an outfield with Gonzalez and Andre Ethier sound? (I wouldn't look at his numbers, either.) Remember, at one time, both of these players were in the A's system. And even with Taylor and Carter waiting in the wings, at times like these, I just can't help but think of the sacrifices we've made over the years, and the holes in the offense. However, if the A's can score another 7 runs today, I might not mind so much.
Remember, you can still sign up for CBSSports.com's Fantasy Baseball Commissioner's League for half-off using this link. That takes the price down to $89.99 a league, which is less than $8 a person for a 12-team. If you do start another CBSSports.com league (either with fellow ANers or on your own with friends), email me at baseballgirl1976 at hotmail. Both SB Nation and baseballgirl will make sure you have a fabulous prize to offer the winner.

If it's any consolation
Rajai walked more times than Gonzalez this year. And his OPS+ is barely better than Sweeney’s.
That actually does make me feel better.

Oooh, a sponsored post to f**k with!
I just want to take this opportunity to thank the fine folks at CBS for running the Yankees into the ground between 1964 and 1973. If it weren’t for your incompetence, ignorance, and tomfoolery, there never would have been a break between the Yankees’ 60’s dynasty and the Yankees’ 70’s dynasty for Charlie Finley to take advantage of and build the A’s team that won three championships in a row.

Any injury updates on CoCo Crisp and when he will return to the lineup?
Sorry in advance, but I can’t seem to find anything on the web???
Really?
Has the 2010 A’s season become so lame that we are now subjected to AN writers’ fantasy team laments and gripes? That drivel could put amphetamine addicts to sleep.

It's an advertisement.

How about an outfield of Gonzales, Ethier and Cruz......
don’t forget about the sacrafice we made giving up on Cruz as well. Rivercats fans should remember when he first arrived there showing legit 5 tools… then we traded him of course.
Colby "Ninja Warrior" Lewis
Jumpu-hanga!

I got to see one of Colby's starts for Oakland a couple years back in Chicago
Here it is: link
Lewis allowed 10 runs in 3.1 innings. Then Lenny D came in an threw a shutout the rest of the way. Scutaro went 3 for 4 with a solo HR and there was a rare Bocachica sighting in CF.
So I guess it was an entertaining game, all in all.
Meh on Gonzalez and Cruz.
They wouldn’t hit a lot of homers in the Coliseum.
As for Ethier, we got Bradley and the division championship for it, so meh to that too.

this is a strong effort G_S
For one of the sponsored posts, we should see if we can keep it at zero comments. It’s probably been years since any post on AN failed to receive a comment, much less a front page post.
Goodbye, Maz, hello Henry Rodriguez
Can’t say the A’s management isn’t clear on the consequences of walking too many people, I guess.
@WorldBLee
But I guess the real rationale
Is they think Duke will be ready to go after the two off days and they need extra help in the bullpen in the meantime, especially after last night.
@WorldBLee
Gasoline has been pretty filthy in AAA.
I just hope he’s gained some control, guys definitely fun to watch.
the PA should play Rod Stewart's "Gasoline Alley"
when ol’ Hank gets up to pitch.

Sending Mazzaro back down was a freebie,
because if they DL Duchscherer, they can bring him right back up without having to wait 10 days.

I started Ben Sheets for the first four weeks of the year.
Boy, was that a mistake.
The selfish, they're all standing in line, faithing and hoping to buy themselves time.
Me, I figure as each breath goes by, I only own my mind.
Possibly.

What's weird is that Gonzalez is getting all this praise when he's actually played much worse than he did last season
Keep doing what he’s doing this season and he’ll quickly turn into the next Jeff Francoeur.
Arthur Dent: You know, it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young.
Ford Prefect: Why, what did she tell you?
Arthur Dent: I don't know, I didn't listen!
