Notes: Still trying to figure out why Ian Krol went only 1. Carter had a huge day today. And it's my birthday. Yay me!
Updated: Krol was pulled because of a rain delay. He's fine.

Happy Birthday
And thanks for doing these.
Green finally had a good couple days, while Dixon took a step backward.

Ian Krol
The Cougars had to use their bullpen for eight innings, as starter Ian Krol’s outing was interrupted in the second inning by a 1-hour, 7-minute rain delay.
Thank god.
I saw he pitched 1 inning. Figured he got hurt.
"Carter's 25-game hitting streak isn't any normal streak. He's 46 for 97 (.474 average) during the run, adding 16 walks and compiling 81 total bases in the process. I'm out of superlatives for what he's doing." - Kevin Goldstein

same one from year's past
good ole Matty who had a cup o’ tea with the A’s a couple years ago if I’m not mistaken.
What did i tell you...didn't I say they would win? Yeah that's right I did didn't ? Wait.. what? They LOST?!?!?
An old AAAA player.
Had a cup of coffee with us back in 2005. Hes old.. like 31.

everything said thus far is true
he has a small cult following on AN. He also just left Japan.
"everything said thus far is true"
Except that 31 is old. Grrr…

Yeah I take it back...
Ill be 31 in a few months. Haha.

I'm 31 now. It's brilliant.
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.

Awesome! Thanks for doing this!
+ Carter (today), Sogard, Capra, Hornbeck, Green
- Carter (prev two days), Dixon, Brown back to AA
Other affiliate news posted yesterday
From what I hear, he's not especially gifted at 2B.
I doubt he can play short.

Especially last week
He has more extra-base hits in last six games than he had in 45 games before that. Finally the plate discipline has payed off.
I'm a huge Sogard fan
Really think he has the chance to be more than the utility guy everyone projects him as.
Reminds me a little of Ellis, an infielder who it seemed didn’t do anything really well, and Beane sneaked into a trade…

I don't think Sogard is a utility guy in the making
He’s a mediocre defensive 2B. I don’t think he can handle any other position.

Where's your info coming from?
I thought he was a pretty good defensive 2B?

When the A's got him, the report I saw in multiple places was that he was sure-handed but had no range

This was posted by Nico after the trade:
The quote is from Noah Frank, Media Relations Director for the Fresno Grizzlies:
Every scout who asked me about him claimed he heard from someone else that Sogard’s defense was suspect. Luckily, I had the benefit of watching him all season, and I know that this is a gross generalization. While he does not have the greatest natural range, he puts a glove on anything he gets to and makes good decisions in the field.
Sickels had Sogard as the Padres 20th best prospect and said this:
Gets on base, not punchless, defense is so-so but I like the bat enough to keep give him this grade.

How about Shawn Haviland
He got roughed up a bit tonight giving up 5 runs in 5.1 innings but posted a 7/1 K/BB ratio to up his season rate to 66/12 over 61.2 innings. He is old for the league at 24 in A+ but the Cal league is a tough place to pitch and that is a pretty impressive K/BB ratio.
Hes got a very impressive K:BB ratio.
And a very respectable ERA for the Cal league.

And he's a Harvard graduate
Get him up with Breslow, and the A’s might cure cancer in the bullpen.

also, his blog is great
I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.
The ninth fastest thirty year old in San Francisco
Haviland should be in AA right now
which is good, because SOMEONE needs to be bumped up to AAA. They have zombies and dead people starting for them, and have to rely on the bullpen 3 innings into games after appendages start falling off.
But no, really, the starters for Sacto lately have been awful. Like, Lenny DiNardo has been the best one. And John Halama. Vinny Mazzarro should be in AAA right now.
Grant Green is 4-5 so far...
Still in the 6th inning.

Except for Keough
Who’s 0-5 with 4 strikeouts (though he does have a sac fly)

Green finishes
5-6 2 2bs. Average up above .300. Finally starting to heat up? Hopefully?
"Loyal? I'm the most loyal player money can buy." - Don Sutton
He has 13 hits in last four games
That is pretty hot. Let’s just hope he shows some staying power.
Nice to see him getting hits
and it looks like he’s starting to slow down a bit on picking up errors.
But he’s still got a lot to do to start looking like the prospect we thought we were getting when he was drafted. The doubles are a good sign but he needs to start getting extra base hits with regularity and taking a walk once in awhile. That said, it’s much too soon to write him off. He’s had a disappointing debut but his professional career is only about 200 AB’s old, still plenty of time to get settled in and establish what type of player he is going to be.
Absolutely, well said

A small request with these updates (which are awesome and much appreciated)
Is there any way we can get an updated season slash line posted alongside what they did for the game?

This isnt A's minors
But for those who care, Aaron Crow no has an era in the 5’s in AA. Not that I have anything against the Royals, but its nice to see Crow biting the kid in the ass.
yeah I meant to put a note on here
one of the games that midland beat up on NW Arkansas, it was against Aaron Crow.
