The Questions (30 points possible)

1. Series Outcome (3 games) [3 points]: 2-1 Boston

2. A familiar face starts Tuesday for the Red Sox. Yet John Lackey's year hasn't gone so well. In 10 starts he has posted a career-high 4.84 ERA, and is on pace for a career-low in strikeouts. He is, however, 5-3. Predict his IP/H/BB/ER [1 point each; 4 total] 6 IP / 12 H / 2 BB / 4 ER

3. Marco! looks like he has found a home in Boston. He has played in nearly every game, sports a respectable .269 average, and is second on the team with 54 hits. Predict Marco Scutaro's H/K/RBI [1 point each; 3 total] 4 H / 0 K / 4 RBI

4. Brett Anderson is apparently not hurt and is penciled in against the Sox. Predict whether he gets a Win, Loss, or ND, as well as his K/H/ER [1 point each; 4 total] ND / 1 K / 5 H / 2 ER

5. The Red Sox currently sport a team ERA of 4.43, and are third in the league with 233 earned runs allowed. Do the A's score at least 7 runs in any game? [+1 if right, -1 if wrong] Yes (in game 3)

6. Rajai Davis is still running like mad. He leads the league with 20 stolen bases, and has only been caught twice. How many bases does he swipe? Does he get caught at all? [2 points for first part, +1/-1 for second; 3 total] 1 SB / Yes (in game 3)

7. Continuing with the stolen base trend, the Sox are last by a long ways with 12 SB in 52 games. The rest of the A's have also stolen 12. Does any Red Sox swipe a base? Does any Athletic other than Raj steal a base? (Yes/No only - no need to name players) [+1/-1 for each part; 2 total] Yes / Yes

8. Ben Sheets is coming back to life. He is going for 6 straight quality starts, and his fastball was in the mid-90's last time out. This is his first-ever start vs. Boston. Predict his IP/H/BB/ER [1 point each; 4 total] 6 IP / 7 H / 1 BB / 4 ER

9. Jonathan Papelbon is another Red Sox pitcher with a career high ERA (2.86), however he has converted 12 of 13 save opportunities. How many games does he pitch in? How many saves for him in the series? [2 points each; 4 total] 1 game / 1 save (2nd game)

10. Nearly an inch of rain is forecast to fall in Boston through Tuesday night. Do the A's and Sox play at least 9 innings Tuesday? [2 points] Yes

Answers due by 4:10pm PDT Tuesday

Note for #10: For the answer to be yes, a regular 9 inning (or more) game must be played. A regular rain delay would have no affect on the answer, but a cancellation, the game getting "called" after a certain number of innings less than nine, the game getting stopped and scheduled to resume on another day, etc..., would make the answer No.

Yes

If they happen to continue past midnight, then consider it Tuesday. It’s no if they pack up and go home without finishing the game.

inching along, 9 points a GOG.

1. Series Outcome (3 games) [3 points]: Red Sox 2-1

2. A familiar face starts Tuesday for the Red Sox. Yet John Lackey’s year hasn’t gone so well. In 10 starts he has posted a career-high 4.84 ERA, and is on pace for a career-low in strikeouts. He is, however, 5-3. Predict his IP/H/BB/ER [1 point each; 4 total]
6/5/3/3
3. Marco! looks like he has found a home in Boston. He has played in nearly every game, sports a respectable .269 average, and is second on the team with 54 hits. Predict Marco Scutaro’s H/K/RBI [1 point each; 3 total]
3/2/0
4. Brett Anderson is apparently not hurt and is penciled in against the Sox. Predict whether he gets a Win, Loss, or ND, as well as his K/H/ER [1 point each; 4 total]
ND/5/4/2
5. The Red Sox currently sport a team ERA of 4.43, and are third in the league with 233 earned runs allowed. Do the A’s score at least 7 runs in any game? 1 if right, -1 if wrong]
no
6. Rajai Davis is still running like mad. He leads the league with 20 stolen bases, and has only been caught twice. How many bases does he swipe? Does he get caught at all? [2 points for first part, +1/-1 for second; 3 total]
3, no
7. Continuing with the stolen base trend, the Sox are last by a long ways with 12 SB in 52 games. The rest of the A’s have also stolen 12. Does any Red Sox swipe a base? Does any Athletic other than Raj steal a base? (Yes/No only – no need to name players) [1/-1 for each part; 2 total]
no, yes
8. Ben Sheets is coming back to life. He is going for 6 straight quality starts, and his fastball was in the mid-90’s last time out. This is his first-ever start vs. Boston. Predict his IP/H/BB/ER [1 point each; 4 total]
6.1/6/3/2
9. Jonathan Papelbon is another Red Sox pitcher with a career high ERA (2.86), however he has converted 12 of 13 save opportunities. How many games does he pitch in? How many saves for him in the series? [2 points each; 4 total]
1,1
10. Nearly an inch of rain is forecast to fall in Boston through Tuesday night. Do the A’s and Sox play at least 9 innings Tuesday? [2 points] yes
