Open Thread: Game 51 - A's at Detroit (cont.)
3-0 Tigers after 3.5 innings as Max Scherzer has struck out 9 and is pitching great on his own merit. And no one could be happier about this, apparently, than home plate umpire Wally Bell, whose guide dog even agrees that Bell has no clue where the strike zone ends.

Conservatives have been practicing judicial activism for years
every body like it when their side does it. Its so obnoxious listening to people complain about it. The whole point is that you just need to win elections and pack the court with people that think like you, not bitch about how if you lose elections people that don’t agree with you are going to get to interperate the law. Guess what that the way it goes if more people agreed with you and voted that way you would get to do the same thing. Which is why ive been very meh on Obamas SC picks since what the court really needs in my opinon is the liberal version of Scalia not mild mannered tempered liberals. Bush put very conservative picks on the bench Obama has failed to do the reverse.

This is promising.
I think we have the beginnings of a consensus here.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Your problem is you judge a judge a
person’s view on the Constitution based on what the political results of it are. Yes, I know, you’re going to say that’s just how the game is played and you have to be realistic, but that’s exactly what I disagree with. That attitude is poisonous and it’s what’s wrong with the court today. I like Obama’s view of constitutional law a lot more than I like yours. It’s one of the main reasons I liked him in the primary.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
It's a complete abomination when Law and Government are treated like a game to be played.

I don't think thats true of my views
I like judges that interperate the constitution in a similar fashion to me. The best supreme court justice IMO is DFA :-) I think those arguments have to be based on an evolving interpretation of the text rather than politics. My argument is that people shouldn’t complain about decisions they don’t like they should work to put “better” people on the court. I think Citizens United was possibly one of the worst decisions since ive been a live, but guess what I was unsuccessful at beating Bush so I just have to accept that people are going to make decisions I hate. That was my point.

Sorry I jumped to conclusions about you.
Maybe we’re not so far apart after all. You set off some alarms there with your little George Will speech. Will is something of a stooge, but he’s not an idiot. The fact that he couldn’t give a pat answer to a smart teenager out to “gotcha” him doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a coherent position.
My favorite Justice in recent times was David Souter. You’d probably be OK with that, but you’ll froth at the mouth if I tell you who my favorite Justice from the 1960 was. (Hint: he was from Alabama.)
We need to drop this now. There have been many occasions when you’ve started a CGV discussion and gotten away with having the last word. Let me have it this one time.

That is on Daric
It was close and he looked at it.
Not a single mention of the ridiculous strike zone by the Tiggers comms.
Apparently Max is just the best pitcher of all time.
He steps to the left, he steps to the riiiiiiight. That Amos Roberts, he'll make you look shite!
Ellis is just that fucking good
He is, after all, a unicorn.
Ask me about my squirrel.
So, um...
Gameday’s strike zone calibration is about 6 to 12 inches off showing that last pitch weeeelllll inside the strike zone.
Ask me about my squirrel.
The A's are striking out at a 70%+ pace.
Kouz is the only batter w/o a strikeout at this point. Strange days.

Cause he swung at the first pitch
as some of the others should have given the circumstances.
Honestly, this is more "A's living right" in a way
Scherzer would beat the A’s — or anyone — and Braden is pitching poorly. Fortunately they happen the same day. Had Scherzer started Friday, the A’s lose that one and then Galarraga probably beats Braden today.

I'm not as convinced
Yeah, he’s settled in, but with a truer zone, his early struggles, who knows where it goes.
Ask me about my squirrel.
I haven't seen the first two innings
But from the third on, there was nothing really different with the strike zone between A’s and Tigers
It's been wider against the A's
But the A’s are swinging at pitches they normal don’t as a result.
Ask me about my squirrel.
"It's been wider against the A's"
In the first two innings? OK, can’t say anything about that, thanks to MLB.tv
There have been a handful of close pitchers in the past few innings
that Braden didn’t get the call on. Those were strikes against the A’s, including at least one of those to Cust just now.
Ask me about my squirrel.
hey, finally got a wide strike

Now it’s time to win the second half of the game.
I'm so glad that Geren hasn't made any indication of thinking about pulling Braden.
Given how this game is going, it’s really important that we get as much out of him as we can.
