Saw the game in ReeNoo last night.
Donaldson looked terrific; Carter not so much. Wimberley makes things happen — bunted effectively and walked twice. Cardenas is hitting .220 or so; some guy named Harper was DHing ineffectively. Several of the varsity were MIA.
Weird place, Aces stadium. New (plus), downtown (plus), between the Truckee river and RR tracks (plus), but makes no use of either (2 minus), size and ambience of an open pit mine (popular hereabouts – 424’ in right center and high wall in center and left — Donaldson would’ve had two homers elsewhere, instead of a GR-double and triple), had some dancers whose moves suggested that their other jobs involve shiny poles (eh), hokey diversions, even for MILB (Segway races way out in center field — almost beyond the horizon, Michael Jackson crowd kareoke?), AND a HUGE baseball head who appears, Kilroy-style, from behind the batter’s eye and sings Take Me Out — verry cool, but a little scary, in a Ghostbusters-kinda way (triple plus), crappy fireworks (eh).
Numerous minor league baseball moments — best of which was Aces’ catcher plunking his pitcher while trying to throw out Donaldson(!) stealing second base. SAFE!
Going again Monday — I’ll try to get a pic of Baseball Head.

It's definitely an interesting place
I liked it the couple times I went out there to cover games last year. Saw Trent Oeltjen absolutely mash one to right center only to land in the outfielder’s glove on the warning track.
Very windy there. Also saw Chris Carter’s 3-homer game there late last year and an no-doubt-about-it BOMB by Everidge.
I’d recommend anyone who likes the minors to make the trip there at least once. Easy access off the main strip downtown, too.

That oddly looks like Calvin if Calvin's head morphed into a giant baseball.

Oh, yeah -- and a garish red mascotly thing with a tongue that waggles, obscenely, most of the time.
Even when he tucks it into his pants mouth, he’s not quite ready for family fare.

Archie
They need to get him an oversized glove.

Josh Donaldson
Does anyone else think that this guy will be a really good hitter in the big show? I really like this kid, my biggest concern is what position he might play at, but I love his approach at the plate.
There was some talk of him maybe going to 3rd.
But it prob wasnt serious talk. Would be a good idea if he could do it tho.
"Carter's 25-game hitting streak isn't any normal streak. He's 46 for 97 (.474 average) during the run, adding 16 walks and compiling 81 total bases in the process. I'm out of superlatives for what he's doing." - Kevin Goldstein
That was only talk because he played 3B in college or something
There’s been no real consideration about moving him from behind the plate, it was only thought up by people who lament our lack of 3B prospects in the minors (while ignoring that good hitting catchers are vastly more valuable prospects than average hitting third basemen)
Oh I agree no doubt.
But if we were to sign Suzuki long term or Stassi develops super quick moving him to 3rd isnt the worst Idea ever. Odds of it happening… less than 1%.

Uh
Hasn’t he played a good amount of 3rd base for us?

no he played some at first and third the AFL two years ago but not a lot.

15 games at Midland last year
Thought it was more

Scouts really liked his d at third in college
A good fielding 3bman is not less valuable (from a WAR perspective) than a terrible catcher, which until recently many thought he was.

'Cats go for the sweep today.
Carter now hitting .230.
Hoping for some of that famous Reno wind today — typically blows out to right field, which may account for the Polo Grounds-style dimensions. A high pop-up could land in Salt Lake.

Ian Krol pulled after a 1,2,3, first inning today in Kane County
I think there was a significant rain delay after the first inning so there is no need to panic yet. But for some reason with this system my first reaction is always to panic.
Today: Watson, Carter each homer twice and Harper hits grand slam. 'Cats come from behind 8-3 to win 11-8.
Carter has such an easy swing it doesn’t seem like the ball should go that far. Rodriguez 101 on the gun several times to finish the game.
And so the whole stadium goes without free ice cream. And Baseball Head doesn’t know the words to God Bless America.
Did Billy trade Haren for all the DBacks’ pitching prospects?
