Dixon is back already? That's good news.
Also good news: Cardenas.

Yeah, this is his 2nd or 3rd game since he came off the DL or whatever they have for injuries in low-A
I think he walked in his first game. I continue to think that he’s one of the bright spots so far for the A’s minor leagues. I really hope they can promote him to Stockton this season, and eventually get him up to Midland before the end of 2011.
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
Dixon to Midland
He is only 19, and is having an OK year. I would not rush him to Midland. A complete year in Kane County is OK. At most, finishing in Stockton.
Move to Stockton shouldn't be too stressful, though
Higher level, but much more hitter-friendly surroundings. Some players actually improve their numbers significantly once they leave Kane County (Desme last year, Parker this year).
Sogard
Decent .354 OBP right now during his first crack at AAA, but his .032 ISO is just eye-popping. He’s not a home run hitter obviously, but he hasn’t been so powerless during his earlier minor league stops with the Padres either.
He looks like a bad version of Eckstein to me

I dont want to be "that guy"
But it would seem the River Cats faced some pretty crappy pitching.
Why do the A's play Carter in RF instead of LF
If he’s to have a future as an OF, shouldn’t it be in left? Does he have a good arm or something? I’m assuming the future would consist of something like Sweeney in CF, Taylor in RF, and Carter in LF
My guess is because Wimberly played left, and as a second baseman, he probably has a weak outfield arm
Anyway, this year Carter has played two games in right and one in left. Last year he played 9 in left and 5 in right. In 2008 he played 14 games in right.
I think it’s probably all moot, since he’s most likely going to be a DH once he’s a regular in an A’s uniform.

If he's going to DH regularly in an A's uniform,
then he should be doing that now with Sac to get used to it instead of playing the field
Why? Why not see if he can develop into a passable OF in Sacto?
That’s the whole point of the minor leagues — to develop players. It’s not like it’s a tough transition to DH, anyway, and Carter is a good athlete. Plus, with Barton looking like he wants to stick around at 1B, that cuts Carter’s defensive options right there. I’d like for Carter to play as much OF as possible, just in LF.

I agree they should be trying him in the field
But you’re underestimating the difficulty of being a DH,

hes got a good arm
He's not missing bats and still giving up HRs like they're party favors at Chuck-E-Cheese - mikev

So how do we feel about Tolleson?
I didn’t think much of the signing when it happened but he is having a pretty successful season so far in Sacramento. He’s a bit old to be a prospect at 26 but he has got his average up to .300 with a 1:1 K/BB ratio and after a couple homers tonight is showing a not insignificant amount of power. I have no idea how good his defense but he seems to at least be able to hold his own at SS.
he is a career minor leaguer in my book
stirrups are undeniable but a good ball player they do not make.

He'll see some time in a major league uniform
Because he has some skills (really, his complete lack of power is his only significant offensive weakness). I think he’d have to be really good defensively at multiple positions to stick on a roster for a long time.
Then again, Eric Patterson and Jake Fox sticking on a major league roster, so who the hell knows?
