DLD 4-26-2010: Off This Day!

Some news in the press today and over the weekend you might have missed if you're not into tree-killing or spent too much time at the ballpark:

Realistic Eric Chavez is realistic: "Games like this are good, yeah. But does it mean I'm going to go on a hot streak for the next month? I don't know about that."

The debate continues over metal vs. wooden bats in high school baseball as a Marin County boy hit in the head by a line drive last month continues the process of recovery.

The City of San Jose continues the process of putting together land for an MLB team, if they ever acquire one.  The Mercury News was so anxious to post this story that they left in the following note from the reporter "QUOTE TK FROM A GUY WHO LIKES THE BALLPARK IDEA".  Whoops.  (TK means "to come", it's common practice when doing the first draft of a story to stick a placeholder like this in, but someone is supposed to catch it before it hits the newsstands or the intertubes.  It was fixed for the print edition yesterday, but not online.)

Meanwhile, though Target Field is open for business, some of the complexities of the land title and easements are still being worked out.

It's not really a bad article, but I had to howl at the self-parody aspect of the headline in the New York Times: The Understated Elegance of Mariano Rivera.

Pablo Sandoval is the living argument for "Health At Any Size".

Ignacio de la Fuente's nephew gets in a fight with a 14-year-old at the Coliseum -- in the city's suite.  Nice.

Shockingly,  an obnoxious YouTube sensation that I don't  remember seeing  as an AN meme...yet.

And speaking of YouTube, a dispute over the concept of "fair use" has taken down most of the "Hitler reacts to..." videos.  That's a pity because I can just imagine the "Hitler reacts to Dallas Braden's claim that A-Rod violated baseball etiquette" one.

Dump 'em if you got 'em:
