GOG 2010 #6 - One Little, Two Little, Three Little
The Indians are coming to town for a three game series, the last of this home stand for the A's.
Linky Links:
Probable Starting Pitchers
Score Postin' - Don't ferget to put yer Yankees score in there, pardner, or nevermoor will come at cha with a buck knife!
Questions (27 total points):
1. Series outcome (3pts.) 2-1, A's
2. Before their 11 hits vs. the Twins on Thursday, the Indians had the lowest batting average in all of baseball (yes, even lower than us!). Which team gets more total hits this series? (1 pt.) 33-21. A's
3. Here's something fun, according to mlb.com:
On Tuesday, Oakland used its Opening Day lineup for the sixth time this season. That may not sound like much, but it's the first time the A's had used the same lineup more than five times in a season since 2006.
Now, with T-Buck, et. al. gone, things have gotten murky again. In this series, how many different lineups will we use, 1, 2 or 3? (2 pts.) thru Sat., Three lineups
4. In his last two starts, Justin Duchscherer has given up zero runs. That's 13 straight innings. He starts in the series opener vs. the Tribe Friday night. Does he add to that total? How many innings? Does he leave the game with no runs allowed again? (1 pt. each) yes/6.0 Inn./yes
5. Shin-Soo Choo leads the Indians with a .431 OBP. He has 15 hits to go with 12 BBs. Daric Barton still leads the A's, with a .493 OBP--15 hits and 18 BBs. Who has more hits this series? More BBs? More total bases? (1 pt. each) Tied (5 hits) / Tied (1BB) / Barton 5tb to Choo's 4tb
6. The Tribe has 111strickouts (7.4 per game) for the season, compared to 115 (6.8 per game) for the A's. Besides being really pathetic, which team has more strickouts for the series? Which team has the most for a single game? What player (either team) leads the series in K's? (1 pt. each) Clev (16)/Clev (6)/Choo 4, Laporta 4, Barton 4- ANY of these three answered scores the points
7. From our second base black hole of offense, we got zero hits, zero walks and one sacrifice for the series versus the Yankees. Our Unicorn got busted up again and ended up back in the shop, so the job's Rosales's for the time being. Does he get a hit OR walk this series? Does he have more than one? Does he hit an extra base hit? (1pt. each) Thru Sat. yes/yes/no
8. Brett Anderson pitches on Saturday after a disappointing loss to the Orioles last Sunday. He faces Fausto Carmona. Besides having a wicked cool first name, Carmona is also a hell of a pitcher. Well, the Dominican is full of potential, anyhow. Who between them has more K's? Allows more base runners? Gives up more BBs? (1 pt. each) Anderson more K's 5-4 / Carmona, 7-4 / Anderson 1-0
9. The A's have hit a total of 10 home runs in 17 games this season. The Tribe has hit 11 in 15 games. Which team hits more HRs this series? Which team has more RBIs? (1 pt. each) A's 2 HR / A's 22-6
10. Finally, on Sunday Justin Masterson faces off against Gio Gonzalez. Here's what mlb.com has to say about Masterson:
Masterson is coming off an ugly and inefficient outing against the Twins. In just four innings, he allowed five runs (two of which were earned) on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts. An Asdrubal Cabrera fielding error hurt him, but so did a costly bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and a fielding error of his own. Masterson threw 96 pitches in that short span, and he once again struggled to tame left-handed hitters. He hasn't done much to dispute the notion that he might be better-served in a bullpen setting, but the Indians are giving him the opportunity to prove himself as a starter.
Sounds like it might be a showdown of the head cases...predict Masterson's total pitches (pitch count +/-5) and total innings. Predict Gio's total pitches (pitch count +/-5) and total innings. (1 pt. each) Masterson 97 pitches, 4.0 IP / Gonzalez 100 pitches, 7.0 IP

Okay, it looks like it's a problem with SBN's auto strikeout feature.
Something happened when cuppingmaster inadvertently triggered the auto-strikeout with the hyphens. SBN put an extra <strong> tag in there, which was never closed. From that point on, <strong> </strong> does nothing, as there’s already a <strong> open.
See, right after the </del> tag after “2. 33-21 A’s”:

Maybe I shouldn't do these with my green and gold sunglasses on...
1. Series outcome (3pts.) A’s sweep
2. Before their 11 hits vs. the Twins on Thursday, the Indians had the lowest batting average in all of baseball (yes, even lower than us!). Which team gets more total hits this series? (1 pt.) A’s
3. Here’s something fun, according to mlb.com:
On Tuesday, Oakland used its Opening Day lineup for the sixth time this season. That may not sound like much, but it’s the first time the A’s had used the same lineup more than five times in a season since 2006.
Now, with T-Buck, et. al. gone, things have gotten murky again. In this series, how many different lineups will we use, 1, 2 or 3? (2 pts.) Three
4. In his last two starts, Justin Duchscherer has given up zero runs. That’s 13 straight innings. He starts in the series opener vs. the Tribe Friday night. Does he add to that total? How many innings? Does he leave the game with no runs allowed again? (1 pt. each) Yes/3/No
5. Shin-Soo Choo leads the Indians with a .431 OBP. He has 15 hits to go with 12 BBs. Daric Barton still leads the A’s, with a .493 OBP—15 hits and 18 BBs. Who has more hits this series? More BBs? More total bases? (1 pt. each) Barton/Barton/Choo
6. The Tribe has 111strickouts (7.4 per game) for the season, compared to 115 (6.8 per game) for the A’s. Besides being really pathetic, which team has more strickouts for the series? Which team has the most for a single game? What player (either team) leads the series in K’s? (1 pt. each) CLE/CLE/Sizemore
7. From our second base black hole of offense, we got zero hits, zero walks and one sacrifice for the series versus the Yankees. Our Unicorn got busted up again and ended up back in the shop, so the job’s Rosales’s for the time being. Does he get a hit OR walk this series? Does he have more than one? Does he hit an extra base hit? (1pt. each) Yes/Yes/Yes
8. Brett Anderson pitches on Saturday after a disappointing loss to the Orioles last Sunday. He faces Fausto Carmona. Besides having a wicked cool first name, Carmona is also a hell of a pitcher. Well, the Dominican is full of potential, anyhow. Who between them has more K’s? Allows more base runners? Gives up more BBs? (1 pt. each) BA/Carmona/Carmona

Question: Duke allowed 2 unearned runs in his last start (13 innings, no earned runs)
Does the question #4 refer to any runs, or just to earned runs? Does this refer to all three parts of the question? And to be really annoying, does “leaving the game scoreless” count if he leaves runners on who are allowed to score by the subsequent pitcher?
A Ballade [for the Angels Fan], by Eustache Deschamps: "We are cowardly, ill-formed and weak / Aged, envious and evil-spoken. / I see only fools and sots / Truly the end is nigh / All goes ill."

Unearned runs would not count, no.
Leaving the game scoreless would include any any runners still on base that he’s responsible for not scoring.

I am very bummed that Masterson got yanked and then Kouz got nabbed at 3rd. If he had tried to leg the double into a triple and gotten nabbed then, I woulda hit the 4.1 IP for Masterson, and feel like the total shit. Still, I got the pitch counts for both!
On the good side, I got the series outcome for the very first time!
