Fox Almost Wins It In The 9th, But...Foul
With the A's trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, runners at first and second, two out, Jake Fox hooked one down the left field line...in the corner...dropping...foul. Fox would fly out to end the game, hanging a loss on Michael Wuertz in his Cactus League debut.
Dallas Braden had his changeup going, helping him to strike out 6 batters without issuing a walk in his 5 innings. Jonny Gomes touched Braden for a solo HR, and some bloops and bleeders got in the way before Braden's own error, dropping the throw on a would-be 3-6-1 DP, contributed to the A's starter being charged with a total of 3 runs, 2 earned.
Adam Rosales continued his strong bid to make the team, homering and walking twice in four trips to the plate. He also made a throwing error at SS, just to show he's human.
Look for Justin Duchscherer to make his first Cactus League appearance tomorrow in relief of Brett Anderson, for Coco Crisp and Rajai Davis to be back in the OF on Wednesday, and for the battle for the final pitching and bench spots to sort themselves out no sooner than April 3rd. Buckle up, folks: Opening Night is 2 weeks from tomorrow!

Sigh.
Cahill and Gio will both get plenty of work this year.

Adam Rosales
will be on the opening day roster. Period. He doesn’t have to earn it, prove it, show it — he’s there already. Hell, he probably oughta start.
I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.
He was always going to be there
Who else would back up at short or second?

Not sure he's strong enough defensively to start

Plus he's way behind in the nickname stakes.

in Cincy they called him

I think MoneyPenny is easily the worst nickname any A's player has ever received at AN

Oh, you've got a point there
But I didn’t see too many people call him that, thankfully.
Who is responsible for those two nicknames?

I mean, what was that all about?

I'm looking forward to Crisp being the lineup tomorrow
As a DH. If he’s going to start the season, he needs to get some plate appearances in.
And I wish Fox had one more option. At the beginning of ST, I thought the option might not be that important as he would make the team, but the way he’s hit, Rosales will probably get the nod over him. On the plus side, he might clear wavers ;-).

Is Crisp meant to start hitting soon?
I’d totally forgotten about him.

Damn. It almost..
…sounds like last season- in Chicago.

If someone picks up Fox on waivers, do they need to keep him on the 25-man roster all season?
And if they get sick of him and want to send him down, is he just exposed to the waiver wire according to the standard order teams get to claim players?
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
They don't HAVE to keep him, but if they want to send him to the minors he does have to clear waivers
It’s not like he would be offered back to the A’s.

Yes to all of what you said, I think.

I think he'd clear waivers
There will be several players on the waiver wire, and most rosters will be set. He’s weak defensively and he hasn’t proven himself offensively. Patterson, on the other hand, shows hints of being a pretty good hitter, plus he can back up second base if necessary. Patterson, I think could prove a useful 25th player; Fox at this point, not.

Non A's Bay Area Sports News
The Golden State Warriors are for sale — and Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison has already made it well known he wants to buy the team.

If only Ellison would buy the A’s, too…

Ellison
Why doesn’t he just buy the Raiders while he’s at it along with the Warriors and the A’s? That would be awesome.

Oh how I pray someone would buy the Raiders
and bring the team into the 21st century….hell even bring them into the 1990’s.
Has Larry stated...
…that he’d keep the team in Oakland?
