Nice Moves: Don't Discount The Impact(s) of Jennings and Tomko.
On the surface the signing of two journeymen pitchers to minor league contracts on the last day of February is not a huge deal; but think again with these two. As it is right now the A's rotation and bullpen are stacked, and neither may start the season with the big league club. That said both were pretty darn good pitchers last season and WILL contribute at some point this season, this while adding depth to the organization.
Brett Tomko: 4-1: 2.93 ERA with Oakland in 6 starts also had a 1.009 WHIP, pretty darn good if you ask me. He didn't fare as well with the Yankees posting an ERA over 5 with a 1.289 WHIP. Yet he has been a solid contributor over the course of his 14 major league seasons, winning a 100 games and posting a 1.365 WHIP. I am just saying we could do a lot worse in terms of a 6th or 7th man in the rotation when/if a player goes down
Jason Jennings: Really has not done much since a really good 2006 season with the Rockies where he posted an ERA under 4, this while playing in the friendly air of Coors Field. That said he was pretty good with the Rangers in 2009, in more of a setup/relief pitcher role. Posting an ERA just over 4 in 41 relief appearances. It isn't that bad of a thought having Jennings as the possible 7th man in the bullpen; him being able to pitch in long relief also creates a lot of flexibility.
As of right now the A's are as deep and talented in regards to pitching as any team in the majors, and despite our offensive difficulties, pitching does win, which has been proven time and again. The depth of both the rotation and bullpen is absolutely staggering if you ask me
Rotation: Sheets, Duke, Anderson, Braden, Gonzalez, Cahill, Mazzaro and Tomko/Jennings
Pen: Bailey, Devine, Wuertz, Zeigler, Kilby, Breslow, Blevins, Rodriguez, Meleon and Tomko/Jennings

Wait, you mean he's NOT a gremlin?

Out of curiosity, how is the air in Denver "friendly"?
To pitchers, I mean.
Taken down with hearts alive, our hearts alive.
it opens doors for you and has homey charm?

There are differing opinions on me. According to Iglew "DFA is PT with a sense of humor. PT is DFA with introspective self-doubt. I like them both" but according to sirbed Im "The Stats Killer"

apparently whip is such an important pitching stat we need it calculated to the third decimal place...

don't forget about our Rule V guy
Cassevah. He still has to be considered for a spot in the pen as well.
i do like the depth, though.

I think Tomko and Jennings
were as impactful as and 10th and 11th starter signings are ever going to be.

Speaks volumes
of how much confidence the front office has in Cahll, Maz, and Gio. I think 2 out of the 3 will spent a majority of 2010 in the minors which is fine with me since it will give the team 1 less arb year.
Good moves
We are going to need as much depth as possible, considering the inevitable DL carnage that is sure to follow.
Tomko has been a Home Run serving machine
throughout his career, but hopefully he’s found a groove in Oakland and continues to keep it in the park.
No more raining on Bruins Nation's rainy parade, they took their ball and went home.
But the A's need HR's!!!!!!!
Oh, wait…….doh!

If either of those two are pitching on the big club this year
it will mean we have quite a few injured pitchers.
This is my thought: These two guys are good "white flag markers"
If you see them in Oakland, it means that enough pitchers have been injured or have not lived up to their young promise that 2010 is officially a “FAIL.”

Tomko = the human benchmark
If you sign him to only a minor league deal and that’s where he stays, its ok. If he’s pitching for you in September, you know you’re season went down hill
Not just athletes, Athletics.
I don't if he pitched in game 150-162 after we've clinched the division.

Oh cool.
Good to see Gizmo could find work after Gremlins 2.
Who needs homeruns?
Wrong
Gizmo is a mogwai. The Gremlins are the result of feeding mogwai after midnight.
