For an offensively starved team, I'm shaking my head in disbelief that Beane went after Coco Crisp instead of Johnny Damon as our 3rd OF. Granted that at the time Beane signed Crisp, no GMs thought a player who batted .286 with 24 HRs could be had for a bag of peanuts weeks before spring training, but ANers would think Beane is smarter than most GMs.
We can debate all we want about how bad Damon is defensively but Crisp missed the entire 2009 and there is no telling how good he still is defensively. Whevere Damon ends up, he's gonna hit more HRs this season than all our OFs combine (Cust not included). Did Beane screw up by going after Crisp so quickly and failing to secure Damon after noticing that there is no market for him?
