Adrian Beltre can Screw Himself!! Well, Until/if he Signs With us.
So, Beltre turned down a lucrative 5 year contract offer from the A's. The second consecutive off-season that Beltre has pretty much ignored the A's overtures. Why? Does he want to play in the east coast? NO! He is engaged in conversations with the Angels and Rangers. Does he want to play with a contender? Maybe. However, the A's are as much of a contender as are the slegnA. Is it all about money? Maybe. Apparently he wants a Torii Hunter type contract. Or, is it about not wanting to play/live in Oakland? That is probably the most likely case. But why? What is wrong with Oakland and the Bay Area. My answer is absolutely nothing!!!
The A"s have a heralded history of winning baseball. This is referenced within their 4 World Series Championships in Oakland, and 9 overall championships. Additionally, the A's have won 90+ games a whopping 26 times. Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Ray Fosse, Sal Bando, Bert Campaneris, Joe Rudi, Billy North, Chuck Dobson, Johnny Odom, Rollie Fingers, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Rickey Henderson, Dave Parker, Dave Henderson, Carney Lansford, Bob Welch, Dennis Eckersley, Terry Steinbach, Miguel Tejada, Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson etc... have all dawned the green and gold. So what is wrong with this franchise? Is it not good enough for Beltre? Well, if not he can go screw himself.
What about the area? Yes Oakland has one of the highest crime rates in the United States, 8th highest in the United States. However, the Bay Area is also one of the greatest places to live in the world, yes the world!! Not many places in the world can you be a couple hours away from the beach and a couple hours away from the snow. Ocean Beach in San Francisco, Stinson in Marin County, Tennessee Valley and Lemontower. Give me a break, some of the nicest beaches in the west coast. And, what about San Francisco? Is that none one of the prettiest cities in the world? Sometimes, we overlook how lucky we are to live near that city because we take it for granted. However, people from all around the world come to the United States just to visit San Francisco. Fisherman's Warf, the Golden Gate Bridge, Height and Ashbury, as well as Golden Gate Park. The Bay Area is iconic in the counter culture and civil rights movement as well with people like Jimmy Hendrix, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin and Abby Hoffman existing and surrounding the Bay Area. Less than an hour from Oakland you have the "wine country" in Sonoma and Napa, two of the prettiest sites in North America. A day in Sonoma County can quickly remind someone of the back roads of France and Italy, of which i have seen. We are also a quick ride from the Sierra's in Nevada, Tahoe, and a quick one hour flight from Vegas.
If Adrian Beltre doesn't want to be an Oakland Atlhletic, i am fine with it. However, if he thinks that he is too "good" to play here, well he can just go screw himself. We don't need him, he can go play in the smog infested area that is Southern California. Sit in hours of traffic and deal with the self involved, ego centric so cal natives. Oakland will move on without him, we will find another person to play third, someone that actually wants to play here. Matsui has always wanted to play in Oakland, for this he quickly endured himself to me. In a day and age where athletes are all in it for the money we got a simple representation of this with Adrian Beltre. Do we want a man of this personality in the A's clubhouse? No, not in my opinion. Cliff Lee took tens of millions less to play in Philadelphia, because he and his family loves the city. That is refreshing in this day and age, however Adrian Beltre is just the norm. He has a jackwagon of an agent in Scott Boras, who can actually screw himself too.
All this said, if Beltre signs with the A's i will welcome him with open arms and continue to cheer for him as long as he is here. However, i will not be holding my breath.

Ironically, I'm not sure if Beltre CAN screw himself anymore.

Sounds like he needs to borrow something from Matsui's collection

It's all about guaranteed years and $$
Last offseason Beltré received identical offers from the A’s and Phillies (3 yrs/$24M). He chose to put up better # for 1 year in Boston, and returned to the market now.
The A’s reportedly offered 5 yrs/$64M, and the Angels offered 5 yrs/$70M. Both offers were rejected by Beltré, who wants more $$ (some reports now have him seeking 6 years).
He wanted Boston to at least match the A’s offer, but the Sux weren’t interested.
I wouldn’t take his not signing personally; this is business. Whoever offers the most will sign him.

This.
"We were shit, pathetic," Guillen growled early in spring training. "We hit too many home runs."

I live in Oakland, love it
but if it was a couple of hours from the beach, I would not live here. We are a tad bit closer than that.
I have abandonment issues. Thanks Lew.
But with a couple of free hours you could get to a lot of great beaches

Oakland
is FAR from one of the best places in the US, must less the entire world, to live. Not a very attractive area at all, actually.
Yet not fundamentally different from Detroit, St. Louis...
Ever edged onto the wrong block in Chicago or New York? Basically, big cities have nice parts and terrible parts.
