Godzilla!
Before I start, many many apologies, including Toho, the creators of Godzilla, Blue Oyster Cult, who wrote the song I'm about to destroy, and everyone at AN who have done song parodies before me. Here goes:
Godzilla (to the tune of Blue Oyster Cult's original)
They work out a contract and give him a pen
He happily signs and so it begins
Ownership smiles, the offense reborn
He's handing a writer Japanese porn
Foreign reporters, Japanese fans
And maybe some better food in the stands?
Oh no, Mt. Davis has to go
Go Go Godzilla!
Dear God, Did Geren bat him leadoff?
Go Go Godzilla!
Watch where you throw - he has a black belt in Judo*
Go Go Godzilla!
Pitch inside, he'll rope it down the line
Go Go Godzilla!
Oh no, reporters love him so
Go Go Godzilla!
Did you know he had a cameo
Against Mechagodzilla?
A decent signing this time of year, bringing Oakland holiday cheer
Godzilla!
Add pop to the lineup however they can, they're trying to put some butts in the stands
Godzilla!
A new DH to put runs on the board, let's sign that guy Beltre and bring in some more
Godzilla!
Put playoff baseball back in the East Bay and watch the Giants fans fade away
Godzilla!
*Matsui was once slapped by one of his junior high school managers after he had angrily thrown a bat at an opposing pitcher who refused to challenge him. He made a vow to his father at age 14 to never say or do a hurtful thing to another living human being ever again. Hideki probably wouldn't use his Judo skills on the guy, but he is 6'2" so I wouldn't throw at him anyway.
Yes, I'm excited, maybe a little too much, by this signing. But anyone out there who wishes to read up on our new DH should check out "The Samurai Way of Baseball: The Impact of Ichiro and the New Wave From Japan" by Robert Whiting.

Quick and dirty.

But he probably likes it that way, anyway.

I want to recommend this, but if I do
it knocks elcroata’s awesome post off the front page. Just know I like this.
I have abandonment issues. Thanks Lew.
Perhaps it's a good thing
Now that it’s gone I can say that I wrote about both Carlos Gonzalez and Jack Cust without the ensuing flame-war in the comments section, which if not unique, must be a rarity on AN. I might even try an in depth look on Cahill now…

Oh, please, pleae, pretty please!
I noticed that, too. It’s amazing! 3 years of Custinanigans, and none in response to your post. And even some doubters happy!
It were awesome work…

Okay...
I’m reluctant to open up this can of worms again, and I mean absolutely no disrespect to elcroata, of course. But this post has been gnawing in my head for a few days now.
How is his post immune from the Custinanigans because of indisputable evidence, when the Cust debates have been, always and forever, perched on evidence with just as much solid backing, if not more?
Matsui looks like an OG in green and gold :D

Hideki looks classy in green and gold.
Who is getting their Matsui jersey?
I don't have to answer to you, You aint my bitch.

Who else has worn #55 in Oakland history?
Quick search doesn’t reveal any easy way to figure this out…
Take your silver mod tubescreamer, your dr. z, your nocaster, put them in a pile and burn them. if god gave you a thousand years, you still couldn't touch this. you can't f***ing keep time to this.
with enough snoopig around
one could figure it out here:

Welcome Hideki!
Apparently the Coliseum is the same level of harshness on LHB HRs as the Angels home park. So maybe his numbers won’t automatically decrease coming to us, as is the general group-think.
The only downer is that he forgot how to hit LHP in 2010 (.692 OPS), which is one sign of aging/decline in LHB.
Still, from a non-numbers perspective, I LOVE this signing.
Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-

Good stuff, rec’d.

I used to think Matsui was the only Yankee I didn't hate
but after reading about the press conference I think I love him. I’m also starting to believe a post I saw somewhere that said, the revenue he could bring to the park in attendance and advertising my just pay his salary. 100 more japanese reporters and photographers at all the games sounds fun anyway.

Nice Move
Matsui is a good addition at really no risk to the A’s. He is a better hitter than Cust. Looks good in Green and Gold as well.

I dunno...
Seems like most reasonable Cust supporters might at least call it a wash at this point. Particularly given the contract money as well as elcroatia’s recent post comparing their strike zone tendencies, which (I believe) showed that Matsui made better contact in more situations.
(Also, the term “Cust supporters” makes me laugh like a fifth grader.)

I had a conversation with a friend in Tokyo last night
Me: I don’t know if you heard, but Matsui is going to be playing for the A’s next year.
Her: How could I not hear it? It’s all over every newscast. Billy Beane was just on NHK TV.
Me: Wow. Do they have to explain where Oakland is?
Her: No, everyone in Japan already knows where Oakland is because of the A’s.
