Lance Berkman close to an agreement with Colorado Rockies
Troy Renck of the Denver Post hears that the Rockies are close to an agreement with Lance Berkman.
Interesting. Renck writes that Berkman told him during the ALCS that he would like to play with the Rockies. Still, it would be interesting to see where he fits in their lineup. Berkman hasn't played the outfield since 2007 and would likely have to share playing time at first base with Todd Helton. The 34-year-old hit .248/.368/.413 with 14 home runs and and 58 RBI in 404 at-bats this year between the Astros and Yankees. - Rotoworld

Renck clarifies
Again to clarify as info coming in. Rox have made agressive push for berkman. In berkman’s hands at this pt. Rox hopeful
So nothing imminent on berkman but rox have real shot
Probably
Plus Berkman gets to improve his power numbers – which have been declining for a couple of years – in a notorious launching pad.
Problem for him is he won’t start ahead of Helton at 1st. I don’t know if the Rockies will want him regularly in the OF. Since there’s no DH he’ll end up as a pinch hitter. But that’s his problem.

Todd Helton was injured and bad last year
His OBP was respectable, but that’s about it. His power was pretty much gone, and his fielding was a little bit bad. I think it’s ok to expect Helton to return to being a fine fielder, and his eye to stay there, but he’s 37 and I don’t see his power coming back. I think if they sign Berkman, 1B is wide open between those two.
