Ellis, Kouz, Barton, Oakland in general snubbed again.
Somehow I envision the Gold Glove voting process to be like being a contestant on the Price is Right. Rather than thinking intently about the right answer, the voters just look behind into the crowd, and hold up fingers that say "Derek Jeter" and "Mark Teixeira," and whatever name is yelled back the most profoundly in the chaos becomes the vote. This doesn't seem academic.

Just read a Rob Neyer article
To sum things up, the big name players – Jeter, Mauer, Cano etc. didn’t deserve the award.
He mentions his vote was for Barton, Ellis and Suzuki.
That would have been beyond amazing

DEREK FUCKING JETER?!?!
Wow.

I know, right?
They. Just. Don’t. Get. It.
It’s remarkable.

I mean, voting has been bad in the past, but this is disgusting
UZR from Fangraphs:
Teixeira: -2.9
Cano: -0.6
Jeter: -4.7
Longoria had 6.9, so I guess he’s deserving at least, but the rest of that infield is average at best.

I'm seeing 11.1 for Longoria.
Which still doesn’t stand up to Kouzmanoff’s 16.1.

Longoria beats out Kouz in other metrics though
including the Fielding Bible and TotalZone.
I don’t have a qualm with Longoria winning it—-totally fair.
Jeter, Cano, and Teixeira winning were ridiculous.
You're right about Longoria.
I was looking at his WAR.
wow.
When you mistake a players’ WAR for his UZR and the UZR still would have been pretty decent, that is a scary good ballplayer at 25…

Are we surprised about this?
The gold glove has been a joke for a while. It has stopped being an award for defense, and more an award for offense and Derek Jeter (who has the distinct honor of being terrible both offensively and defensively this year). I mean, 3/4 of the GG infield is from the Yankees??? Really? And the one Yankee who actually deserved a gold glove (brett gardner) was overlooked. The A’s had the best defensive infield in the majors…by a wide margin, and not even a sniff. But I’m not surprised. The Gold Glove means nothing anymore.
It’s just sad that true defensive prowess is so disrespected in baseball these days.

You're correct: I'm not surprised.
Unfortunately it has been the norm for a long time. I posted this as a fanshot because I know this is not startling enough to warrant a full fanpost, and it’s probably worth only a post in the DLD if there was one. It’s expected, but depressing every time.
