Let's play 2!! A's vs. slegnA, July 16, 2011
At the end of his blogpost about picking up the options on Crisp and Ellis, and declining the option on Chavez, Joe Stiglich writes:
One last note: The A's have scheduled a traditional doubleheader next season for July 16 against the Angels. They've shifted a July 14 (Thursday) game in order to do so. It's the first time the A's have staged a planned doubleheader since 1995. The first game will start at 1:07 p.m. with the second game to follow after a short break.
That July 14 game would have been the A's first game after the All Star break.
I'm surprised that this is being done. I'm not sure if this is the best for the A's players' [already fragile] bodies, but as a fan, I love the idea. My dad has lamented the disappearance of the classic doubleheader for years.
AN Day, anyone?

Fantastic
IMO, each team in baseball should have at least three of these every season.
Now there's nothing left to say, so let's go drink beer.
I don't know about three
But at least one home & one away.

According to MLB
A’s are hosting. So unless the A’s find a new home ballpark by then…
can you fit everybody?
with the train set and all?

Tailgate! Tailgate! Tailgate!
ANers were perfecting, by the end of the season, our ability to stay within the Coliseum and its parking lots for 10-12 hours at a time….now we can go for a new record.

I'm Hi-jacking this thread. Who wants a Warrior's ticket
for Friday, lower bowl section 108 ? It’s only one ticket, but a good one. Utah Jazz will be the opponent.

Groundbreaking idea.
I LOVE this idea with a passion. I may have to fly from Chicago to be there. This is better than free refills.

So...we gotta give the A's credit for this, right?
Something they did that’s right.

I'm firmly planning on my wife getting rich with her illustrations
and then paying for a few days of piece at home by sending me over to watch the A’s. Now only the potential customers need to play along.

Amazing!
Last time I went to a doubleheader, Rickey hit a leadoff homer in both games. I will make the trip up from SoCal for sure.

such a fantastic move...
I hope this is the first game to sell out when single-games go on sale, send a message to the organization that moves which are pro-fans and pro-baseball are rewarded just as well as the giveaways, “days” (little league, breast cancer, etc.), and fireworks games.
i think it might next year
At least I would like to hope that poor ticket sales for 2008 and 2009 were more of a reflection of dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and loss of “stars” like Swisher. The positive development from last season coupled with an opening day start by Anderson and a lineup that seems more “big league” than the past few years (especially if Beane acquires someone interesting) should drive people out to the park for the opener. I just wish it was a day game though, seems like they’ve played night openers for too long.

Based on the attendance at the end of the season, I'm guessing you're going to be very wrong.
