Off Topic: In Memory of My Beloved Nephew Ben Bleszinski

As many of you know I wrote about losing one of my best friends in this world earlier this year. Ben Bleszinski was my nephew, but he was also a great part of my day-to-day life. He and I chatted almost all the time, either through Facebook or further back through AIM. He came out to visit me every year since he was 14 years old and this past June he was killed in a car accident in Connecticut. While Ben grew up a Red Sox fan, he had kind of adopted the A's as a secondary team because of his crazy uncle's obsession with the team.

Ben went to several A's games with me over the years when I lived in Sacramento, he donned his Eric Chavez player tee proudly and even sported an A's cap despite his Red Sox allegiance. It was just the kind of person he was.

If you want further proof of what kind of person he was, all you need to do is read some of the posts on the RIP Ben Blez Facebook wall. Or you can read his obituary as well

So to get to the point, I'm writing to ask AN if you'd be willing to reach into your pockets to donate to the Ben Bleszinski Memorial College Fund. I'll put some details about how to donate after the jump, but I'd appreciate anything you can give, $5, $10, $20, whatever. Ultimately, we'd like to get enough money to keep the scholarship fund going for the next 10 years or so if possible.

I love this community and it will forever be tied to my memory of Ben because while he never really participated, he would often ask me about stuff I wrote on the site. He's one of the few in my family who always knew what I was writing or what I was up to because it was core to who he was. He cared so much for others and wanted them to succeed. He'd ask me why I wrote about a certain trade being a good one when he thought it wasn't. It was remarkable.

I know you didn't know Ben (although some of you met him at an AN Day early on in AN's existence) but I would be eternally grateful for anything you can give. If you don't want to go the snail mail route, we're taking donations through PayPal to Thanks for reading. But if you'd prefer to mail a check, please make your donation check payable to: Glastonbury Board of Education and mail to:

Glastonbury Board of Education, c/o Clare Mazur, 628 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT 06033.

A letter acknowledging your donation will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks of its receipt.

Please include your name, telephone number, address, email address and donation amount. Make sure you put on there that the check is for the Benjamin Bleszinski Memorial Scholarship Fund.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you, AN. Anything we can do to keep his memory alive and well will help me and my family through this painful time.
