Matt Holliday inks deal with St Louis Cards!

Here's the lowdown......I just heard about it and got the link up....I think it's for 7 years and about 120 million. Fuck, that's alot of loot! Maybe Holliday and his agent Boras decided that the time was running out for them....still, that;s major bank!

Anyway, can't wait tosee the debates in this thread...do you think he is worth the money? Discuss please.......

It's a pretty big deal, huh

As much as he might be worth it now, or for the next few years, what’s going to happen when he starts to suck?

He’ll be Vernon Wells without the charm. Still, the Cardinals clearly feel that now is the time (and who am I to argue?); I wonder if they’d have been willing to commit so much money if Roy Halladay had gone to the AL, instead?

Still, good for Saint Louis. I hope this works out for them.

And it’ll be sweet when Michael Taylor throws Holliday out trying to advance two second in game three of the 2012 World Series, huh

I suspect that you think tilting at windmills means something other than what it does.

Jesus, if there was an A's/Cards World Series

I should probably start digging my grave now, because I’m going to have a heart attack! I’ll only be rooting for the A’s by the hair on my chinny chin chin.

I wouldn't worry, it won't happen

It’ll totally be A’s-Giants

Sorry for the cruddy/non functioning link!

Can someone else provide one that actually works? I was in between multiple tasks and got stuck during the link process.

Do I think he is worth the money?

Sure, if DeWitt is committed to putting together a good supporting cast and extending Pujols.

It’s not an easy task, as Carpenter, Wainwright, Rasmus, Ludwick, and Yadier will get expensive or hit FA. As long as they’re still spending well on the draft, all is well.

I can’t judge the Holliday signing in a vacuum. Too many other factors at play, since the AAV isn’t bad at all.

he's worth his weight in gold

gold = Albert Pujols being happy and having his statement of “if another elite hitter plays here I will stay forever a Cardinal” being fortified.

Except they've got to have the money

and this is a massive overpay. You’ve got to bet that there was some bidding-against-yourself in this Holliday game.

After the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels dropped out, something’s up.

and, of course, that NTC isn’t your friend.

Massive Overpay?

Jason Bay just got 18.5M per from the Mets. Holliday deal averages less than that.

yeah its Matt Holliday

He’s going to OPS 950 no matter what for many many years to come. He’s fantastic at hitting the baseball in those nationaled leagues.

by PL78 on Jan 5, 2010 7:53 PM PST up reply actions

The way I see it,

it’s a massive overpay because they paid him in gold.

Both deals were overpays

18.5MM per over 4 years (well, pretty much 5 years though) for Bay was stupid, but fewer years.

7 years at 17MM per was stupid as well…Holliday’s by and far a better player than Bay, and its not even close, but the Bay deal was outright stupid, but Holliday’s was questionable.

Good observation

Pujols has hinted that he may explore other options recently. I still wonder if Boras and Co regret turning down the Rockies offer..

Maybe

the numbers he put up in oakland didn’t hurt his payday that much after all

YO MIKEV

Have you ever posted these links at idiots who think Holliday was worse than a simple 28 game slump?

First 28 games

Last 65 games

Because you should.

by PL78 on Jan 5, 2010 8:01 PM PST reply actions

I basically stopped caring.

But I think I’ve said a few times that since his low water mark, OPS wise, which was like 3 weeks into the season, he OPS’d like .885 until he was traded.

Am I correct

in recalling that most thought it had to do with a mechanical change in his swing back to something he did previously? Something like that?

by JetSam on Jan 7, 2010 7:06 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah he had worked with Mcgwire in the offseason or something

and it was failing miserably so he went back to his regular style of hitting.

I just wonder now what the Cards are gonna have to give to Pujols

to get him to stay beyond his current contract….makes me dizzy!

not at the same time, however

…those chicks would be named Alessandra Ambrosio and Marissa Miller.

With that quality involved, I would much rather have one on one twice than two on one once.
