Adam Kennedy..??
Any word on bringing him back? I haven't heard anything about him since the beginning of the month. I know rumors had it the Nationals and Cubs had interest in him for 2nd base, but what are the chances of the A's bringing him back as the super utility player BIlly has said he was looking for? How many of you would like to see him back in the green and gold? And do you think we can afford him?

I think we have good depth for the infield asides from SS.
Of which Kennedy doesn’t play.
Don’t get me, I like Kennedy- I think he is unduly bashed upon here based on his performance playing 3rd, which he had never played before, and on any other team would never have been planted there.
He was one of the only batters that didn’t feel like an auto-out and he’s a classy guy.
We just don’t really need him.
*Prepare for the inevitable “UGH!!! DO NOT WANT” posts.
Yeah, if Kennedy could play SS he’d be great to have as the utility guy. Of course, if he could play shortstop, he might be starting for some team already…

Agree with everything you said
Like him but, unfortunately, no place for him
I would love to have him as backup if Ellis goes down
but can’t give a roster spot to someone who can only backup 2nd.
And he would have to be super cheap which is not realistic
This
I like him. I’d like to see him back. I’m sure a bunch of VORPers and WARheads will barf when they read this comment because there is probably some statistic that indicates he is as crappy as Billy McMillon, Professional Hitter. Oh well. I like AK.
This
I'm just glad Billy Beane tends to make moves that agree with the "VORPers and WARheads"
instead of going with gut feelings.

right on.
gut feelings have a place in the mix, but not at the forefront.

He does...
…but sometimes I wonder if he places AS MUCH importance on them as many fans do.
Either that, or… he has to temper the ideal player vs what’s realistically available and gets the best he can because the absolute best or ideal player simply isn’t available.

Where is the Unrec button when you need it.
I mean, are you going out of your way to try and act like an asshole by trying to make fun of people who look at stats, or is it just natural even though you’ve failed at it?

wow, chill out a little maybe?
I don’t really agree with him but it didn’t really seem like he was making fun of people who you use stats to prove their point. maybe you are seeing something I’m not (I guess that is obvious).
I shouldn’t butt in, sorry if this makes it worse.

Not sure if that's really what Reg meant or not
but I know I speak for a lot of us when I say I’m really sick of seeing “VORPers” or “VORPies”.

oh, I didn't realize those terms were offensive
why are they may I ask? Because they sound silly or stupid maybe?

I wasn't asking what it meant
just asking why adding “ers” or “ies” to it to describe someone makes people angry.

thanks for trying to help though
I actually didn’t really remember what it meant anyways so it was a good refresher.

because it's purposefully ignorant?
I know it’s really hard to learn what the shit means, or even trying to get cursory knowledge of what the shit means, as opposed to just making fun of it because you don’t understand it.
Eh, whatever. Fucking sick of it, the “anti stat” crap on this site bugs the fuck out of me, especially considering it’s an OAKLAND ATHLETICS blog, which just happens to be one of the most sabermetrically advanced teams in baseball.
Fuck it, who cares. I’m going to go and drink myself into a stupor to get rid of this headache. Out.

This is why it bugs me.
It’s basically akin to bullying the smart kid in school and making fun of him by calling him an egghead.

OK
that makes sense, kind of. I guess I didn’t see it as demeaning but I haven’t been part of previous arguments about it. Obviously the reactions are affected by those previous arguements.

As opposed to bullying the dumb kid and calling him an idiot and a moron?
I find this POV funny. Very funny. The flip side, of course, is the statically-savvy fan mocking and demeaning the “anti-stat” person, which is more common here than you seem to realize. No less bullying than what you describe.
“Your knowledge is lacking, and it is beneath me to try and explain it, so I’ll just mock you instead.”

which is why I'm surprised that
someone on AN hasn’t created a post informing and defining stat head terminology such as vorp, war, uzr, babip and fip for us non-statheads to understand.

Eh, it's not offensive, just that they're usually accompanied by derisive or dismissive remarks.
You know, typically of the “mother’s basement” variety. Think Jon Heyman. It’s lazy, annoying, and willfully ignorant.
At least that’s the tone I got from Reg’s post.
Always the summers are slipping away.
Find me a way for making it stay.
It absolutely had that tone
Because he could’ve just as easily said, “There are probably statistical arguments against resigning him, but I like him as a player and would enjoy his presence on the A’s roster.” Instead he chose to come off like a bit of a tool.

Hey Billy McMillon was a badass
I don’t think anybody has anything against having Adam Kennedy as a backup on the roster, in general. He’s awful as a starter. And the fact is, the A’s just have zero need for him as a backup. If they wanted him, they could afford him, they simply have better options on the roster or in AAA right now.
Jeremy was safe. He jumped over the tag.
No offense meant to any fans or users of statistics
I just like the player and figured I would be bashed for not having the data to back it up. UncleLeo knows how it goes here. I actually think VORPer and WARhead sound pretty cool.
I wonder if they ever played with Berserker
