Anyone want to play mind reader and get inside the head of Billy Beane?

If it is true that Beane is actually pursuing Damon (God forbid) then what are we to conclude from this flurry of activity?

I think the most interesting question is not whose going to be in the starting rotation or whose spot Damon takes (God forbid) should the A's sign him, but rather what Beane thinks his team can accomplish in 2010.  With this fast, but poor slugging lineup, strong defense, a couple of unproven power monsters in AAA, and revamped rotation, does Beane believe that his team has what it takes to compete with the upgraded Mariners and Rangers?  Does this feel a bit like the Holliday signing last year?  Are the A's going for it now, while continuing to develop their minor league talent?
