wow our future offense
sucks. aside from the rivercats and rockhounds, really bad performances. does this mean our winning time frame is somewhere between 2011 and 2013?

The team’s offense doesn’t have to be good. I’d much rather have one or two stars at each level than a really good team at each level. You only get 9 spots to fill in the lineup card.

Aside from the River Cats and the Rockhounds?
That’s 2/5 of the A’s minor league system and arguably the two most important teams of the A’s minor league system. And right now, those two teams are loaded. At some point next year, the River Cats could potentially have an entire lineup of future major league players. Carter, Wallace, Cardenas, Everidge, Doolittle, Cunningham are all there now. Weeks, Donaldson, Brown will all likely be there at some point next year.
There are very few, other teams, if any, that have that many good prospects in the upper levels of their system.
If you think Billy Beane is a bad GM, I hate you and find you stupid.

I think we have a good amount of potential breakouts and highly touted prospects
Stassi, Leyland, Coleman, Dixon, Green, and a few others have a chance to be pretty solid.

Thats on top of the more established guys
Carter, Wallace, Cardenas, Brown, Desme, Doolittle ect…
Is there any other team that has the offensive depth in their system the A’s do?
Sometimes life will strike you out on a curve ball and the only choice you have is to flip off the umpire and walk to first base anyway.

It's amazing
Before last season, we lamented our lack of offense and talked about our amazing pitching.
The fact that the system has made a complete 180 and started developing hitting prospects up the kazoo is a testament to Beane and his skill as a GM.

but the pitching
hasnt really turned out the way it was supposed to, we were worried that we’d have too many pitching prospects but now we may not have enough

We graduated an entire rotation of top 100 prospects
That’s going to destroy pitching depth in any system
Chris Carter entered a villiage where an ogre had devoured all the crops and livestock, and Chris Carter asked the people of the village, "Have you no beasts of labor with which to pay tribute me?" And the people answered, "No, the ogre has taken our livestock," and with one mighty swing of his bat Chris Carter felled the ogre, and Chris Carter did proclaim, "Let my people be free," and it was so. - Aufheben

We traded away part of the depth for offense.
Which is what many of us agreed should happen. We’ve seen the emergence of Anderson, and flashes of brilliance from Gio, Cahill, and Mazzaro. Outman was on fire before he got hurt, and we have Mortenson/Simmons in AAA who could show up. We still have unusually good pitching.
I mean, hell, FDLS, Leon, Ross, Capra, etc. are starting to come around too. Our pitching depth is still not worrisome. Combined with our hitting depth? Dear lord it’s awesome.

I never liked the Simmons pick
Hopefully he has a rebound year in 2010.

I never liked it
Considering he was the 26th pick, and then Porcello went 27th, Ben Revere went 28th, and Julio Bourbon went 35th.
Blah.

Ya, not a whole lot of upside for a 26th pick.
Same with Cliff Pennington at 21 overall 2 years prior. And I worry about Grant Green this year.

I don't worry as much about Green
I was really hoping we’d get Leake, but goddamn Cinci took him instead. Green should be fine, he’s not a Cliff Pennington.

Honestly, I don't know nearly enough about Green to make any quality guesses on his future.
But I’m not sold on him just yet.

He was the #2 prospect entering the season
Whatever else negative one can say about him, lack of upside is clearly not it.

Green
Green is not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination. Rather, he’s quite good.

Ya, like I said, I really don't know anything about him.
Other than what I read in a few scouting reports/DFA’s thread on our top prospects. I guess time will tell.

Hes a good prospect, and has value, I just liked others better at the spot, though I understand why the A's drafted him

Well who did you want instead?
Not like we passed on massive talent to take Green. Purke didn’t even sign. I guess maybe Mike Trout or something?

I liked White and Scheppers a lot.
Although the latter is obviously incredibly risky. And I can’t stress enough, I really don’t know enough about the draft to have a valuable opinion.

I would have been not-unhappy to see them take Alex White, who is by far the most impressive college pitcher I've seen recently
and maybe in retrospect, with the pitching depth seeming to take a hit, it might have been a better choice… but, really, I don’t think you can say either of those picks was “wrong” in the conventional sense.

and everyone thought Revere was a huge reach at the time. Don’t know about Borbon.

Revere is still mediocre
4th outfielder IMO. I wouldn’t worry about him.

He will be starting for the Ports tonight, according to this press release.
I’m a bit confused though. Did Green play in the Cape Cod league this summer or last summer?

I’m very happy they’re moving quickly with Green instead of sending him to Vancouver or Kane County. Stockton is where he should be.

Vancouver game
House is 2-4 with a walk and 2 RBI. I rated Dixon above him, but House is infinitely more impressive than Dixon. Could he break out in a big way next season?
