Is Susan Sussler no longer covering the team
Anyone else noticed that the Chronicle has been running AP stories and no longer has anybody as a beat writer for the A's? Is Susan Sussler one of the many people laid off from the troubled paper, or did they just decide that nobody was paying attention this late in the season?
This also got me thinking, who is the best beat writer the A's have? I would have voted Sussler, if I could still find her anywhere.

First, it's "Slusser"
And second, I dunno. Maybe the Chronicle is using AP reports for road games and keeping beat writers home?
She’s still here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/search/columnists.cgi?waisdbname=/sfgate/wais/chronicle/&byline=susan+slusser

During these tough times staff has been let go at newspapers all over and the remaining have to pick up the slack.
She’s been covering some hockey stuff over the past year, and since the hockey season is fast approaching, that’s probably where her attention is being directed at the moment. Not that there is too much to cover with the A’s right now. Things seem to be fairly stable compared to what was going on the past couple months.
same issue with Stiglich of Bay Area News Group...
(Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune and San Jose Mercury News)
he posted on chin music right before the road-trip that due to economic reasons, the paper would not be sending anyone out.
from 9/6/09:
For economic reasons, my paper isn’t going to staff this next A’s road trip. You’ll still get your game coverage in the Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune and San Jose Mercury News. I just won’t be posting lineups here or giving daily updates. But I will try to blog every so often during the trip, so keep checking back!
Just thought I’d make you aware of what’s up if you notice Chin Music isn’t as active as usual in the coming days. … Talk at ya

missed the road trip
Susan didn’t cover the last road trip as the sports dept. is in money-saving mode, especially with having to reserve travel budget in case the Giants make the playoffs. (Yeah, I know….) She’ll be back on the beat soon.
thanks VK, great job w/ the drumbeat in her absence

Thanks for the feedback
That makes sense. And yes, I misspelled her name. An awful oversight on my part.
Although we have lost a lot of the newspaper beat writers in the past few years, I do find the local TV coverage, thank you Comcast, to be a whole lot better than it ever has been. Also, thanks VK for keeping up the drumbeat blog on Sfgate.

thanks
kb and aBB4l… although my inside knowledge compared to Susan’s is about zero, I try to at least be like nico and bbg and at least offer something interesting from a distance.
bye bye local newspapers
this is what it has come to – newspapers (bar NYT, WPost, etc.) gave up on doing anything international a while ago, then they gave up on national, and now they’re giving up on local coverage.
You know it’s all over when your “local newspaper” has to rely on that same AP story you can read anywhere else.
She updated her twitter with an A's update like an hour ago.
What you fail to understand in your joyless myopia is that baseball is the key to life-- the Rosetta Stone, if you will. If you just understood baseball better all your other questions your, your... the, uh... the aliens, the conspiracies they would all, in their way be answered by the baseball gods.
O no!!!!!!
Not Sussler!!!! Seriously awesome hair, I kid you NOT.

I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal
So who is covering the A's now?
Sussler or Slusser?
Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
