I was in Sacramento last night
Hodsdon filled in for Mortenson, who had been scheduled to pitch. I didn’t learn he was called up until I got home. Hodsdon came up from Stockton to make the start and did pretty well in spite of not having a very good season to date.
Petit had three hits last night, though he hasn’t had a good year at all at the plate. Patterson became the second River Cat (Bellhorn, 2000) with 10 homers, doubles, triples and stolen bases in a single season. Even though Wallace went hitless, he had some good-looking swings. Definitely a hefty boy. They’ve used him at 1B the last couple games.

Thanks for the info
Good to hear Wallace had some good swings. That’s why it pays to see these kids in person. You really can’t tell a lot about an 0-4 night. Hopefully I’ll get to a Stockton or Sac game soon.
Wallace got around on one a little too early and smoked it out of Raley Field over the Solon Club or whatever...
…that second deck of seats is down the first base side. I’m not talking a high pop, either. It was roped.

Timing
Sounds like Wallace’s timing might be off a twinge. Does it look that way, Flash?

Occasionally, but everyone's going to be early or late on some swings

They have a Solon Club at Raley?
That’s good to hear — The Sacramento Solons is a great team name, and they had an extensive history in the PCL. I’ve always thought that it was a shame that the team is called the RiverCats these days. At least there’s something in the stadium named Solon.

He's not that...
“hefty”. I’ve seen him twice now (last night included) and he’s not even close to Fielder, Sandoval or Everidge. He might not have the lateral movement but size alone will not keep him off of first.
I'm not saying it in a negative way
Just that he’s still a big boy. As long as he can play, it’s fine. I’d say he’s pretty close to Everidge, though.

For what it's worth...
…I see Wallace listed at 6’2", 235 while Everidge is 6’1", 215. Let’s just say I don’t buy Everidge being 215.

I was looking at the Baseball Cube site, which must be outdated
The A’s site lists Everidge at 240.

I thought it was only rude if you asked a woman what her weight was.

Was that you taking pics right behind homeplate with the A’s hat on? I was going to go ask but didn’t.

Damn I was sitting right there in the folding seats. I’ll have to say hello next time I see you there.

good to see dixon gettin 4 knocks
You know things are bad when Bobby Crosby doesn't have the lowest batting average of any starter, yet he's hitting .138. Yes, you're 2009 Oakland Athletics.
Dixon 2 for 3 with a BB and no K's today.
I really, really want Dixon to succeed. If he’s finally starting to turn some of those raw tools into actual production, he’ll be a fun player to watch. I’m VERY consciously optimistic he’s turned a corner on the season, but we’ll see. Given his natural ability, this is probably the first time he’s really struggled at a sport, so how he handles himslef right now is very important to his growth.
Sometimes life will strike you out on a curve ball and the only choice you have is to flip off the umpire and walk to first base anyway.

Here are a few quick shots of Wallace from last night before I work on everything for Scout.com later
Come to think of it, he was early or late with most of his contact last night. He also has a bit of a high leg kick as part of him gearing up for the swing.

I don't care what he looks like as long as he can hit
And in those pictures, he really doesn’t look that bad.
exactly.....
He does not look that bad. It’s only his tree trunk legs that make him look disproportional- which people seem to misconstrue as fat.
Either white is a slimming color
or he’s lost a little in his thighs. Which is a good thing.
Or its just the angle. I don’t know.

Better than DH, no?
Gravity may or may not like him playing 3B, especially over time.

I'm sure they also want to see if Cardenas can handle third

Side note.
Simmons seems to be back on track. Past 10 starts 4.15 ERA 60IP 60H 17BB 42Ks. Walks down.. Ks acceptable. Thats including 2 bad starts so hes been much better.
He seems to be on track
but he is just too inconsistent. I think he needs another year in AAA, before he makes an impact as a reliever type, ala duke.
Gotta remember
Simmons is only 22, and a coupla years removed from the draft.
Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer
PaulThomas: I think Keith Law is only a fourth analyst
what purpose is there in keeping Smyth in Vancouver? his numbers are just sick and I don't know if he's learning anything against rookie hiiters at this point
he isn’t young and he didn’t pitch many innings in college. One other side note: look what signing a contract early and getting some playing time can do for you.
"Gratuitous gesticulating together sounds even better"
The A's
are probably thinking about having Wallace at 1st base in the future because the last two games Chris Carter has played right field. I think it could be a good idea because Carter is pretty fast and athletic.
Billy Beane seems to have made a decision
If you look at all the moves starting with the release of Giambi, I think BB has decided that prospects get priority from here on out. I’m excited.
I wish he'd done that heading into the season

The funny thing is
I think we have a better winning percentage since Hollidays been traded, than when we had him. Weird.
"I feel like we are sending Danny Haren for Mulder all over again." - Cardinal fan on the Matt Holliday trade
"But at this time of year, two plus two doesn't always add up to eight. Sometimes, it equals four." - Geoff Baker, Mariners beat writer.
Well you cant wait for somebody else to bring the magic when your a pile of rookies and 2nd years.
Holliday’s vibe/ personality just never really synced here.
Also I’m really curious to see what happens when the Sacramento class makes it in to the bigs.
They all have a history of dominating together.
Dont blow Bailey.
I was looking at the Midland lineup today
With Brown back, Midland is currently an offensive juggernaut. Weeks, Carter, Donaldson, and Brown I can all see being good major league hitters. Gilbert, Spencer, Sulentic, Wimberly and Peterson I can all see being major league players—maybe not regulars, but 4th outfielders/utility players who have decent careers.
Seriously, the team has nine guys who could literally all play in the majors at some point. That’s fucking impressive.
Correction: the team has nine POSITION PLAYERS who could all play in the majors.
As an A’s fan, that’s just sweet.
+1
The RockHounds are back to where they were when I saw them very early in the season, before they were hit by injuries and the Everidge promotion. As you said, Nate, we are about to see a rush of talent to the bigs from Midland.
Sacramento dominating AAA and Midland dominating the AA Texas League. The rebuilding is right on track.
