Cut BoCro, Cut Nomah..... Let the fun begin....

Dear Billy,

I know it was hard for you to cut The Giambino, you two being so close and all, but now that it is done, its time to clear the pantry and donate the contents to charity.  Thats right, BoCro and Nomah need to be designated for assignment or straight released.  Nomar is too old/injured to be the kind of threat that would warrant keeping a young kid in the minors, especially given the current situation in Oakland.  Don't get me wrong, I like Nomah, but not at the expense of youth development.

BoCro is worthless, (yes Bobby, the only joke around here is your batting average) and AK has more veteran leadership in his pinky than BoCro has in his whole body.  Not only that, but Pennington is just more fun to watch, not to mention I don't want to kick my TV every-time I see him in the lineup.  I am happy to have Pennington hold the SS spot till one of the two (sign your draft pick damn it!) good young SS prospects are ready.

Releasing/Designating these two will allow Barton to stay with the big league club, and allow The Duke to join the rotation when he is ready.  In the meantime, you can bring back another deserving prospect, say Buck/Patterson and give them another shot for the rest of the season.  It is important to give Barton, Buck, and Patterson a legitimate/long look for the rest of the season, like you are doing for Pennington.  We need to know if these kids can make it long term, and they all deserve one more shot.

Clearing AAA Sac of these players will allow those mashing at AA to continue their development at the next level, and keep the A's on track for 2011.  Carter, Cardenas, Weeks are all deserving.

Nows the time Billy! Make it happen!

Crosby

I bet you that if he is released someoen will take a chance on him like KC. As for Nomar his days are numbered now that his friend Giambi is gone.

by Arcman on Aug 7, 2009 3:36 PM PDT reply actions

it actually would be a good move for KC

Their shortstop position is a supermassive black hole. Of course, BoCro would probably just get trapped into an orbit and then slowly inspiral.

by colin on Aug 7, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

They just traded for Betancourt.

I doubt they’d take a flier on Crosby.

Having guys like Crosby and Garciaparra come off the bench is not a bad thing. You don’t want good young players sitting on the bench. For example, I’d rather have Buck get consistent at-bats in Sacramento than have him sit on the bench in Oakland. Leave the sitting on the bench to Crosby and Garciaparra.

I agree on Crosby

Which is weird, I’ve wanted him gone for a long time. Nomar, on the other hand, is entirely expendable. As we all know, Buck needs to come up and play every day. Sit Sweeney instead.

by ozzman99 on Aug 7, 2009 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't understand the Sweeney love

He’s a good defender, sure, but he can’t hit. At best, he might slap a few singles against righties. Buck has way more upside.

by ozzman99 on Aug 7, 2009 4:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed

I’d like to see Sweeney sit. We know what we’re getting from him, and Buckingham deserve a shot. I don’t think it happens though.

Damn Beane is just horrendous at signing FA’s.

by PL78 on Aug 7, 2009 4:06 PM PDT reply actions

Frank Thomas?

Adam Kennedy? Wuertz? Sure this move did not pan out, but he cost the A’s nothing prospect wise to acquire Giambi. Cabrera netted a good SS prospect, and Billy arguably got more back for Holliday than he gave up. Its not Billys fault fools cant hit in Oakland.

Besides, we all knew when this started anything that happened this season was a bonus on the way to 2011. Nothing has changed, and the A’s are still on track.

Kennedy and Wuertz weren't FA's.

Traded for. Frank Thomas is one of the few outliers. For the most part, our economic situation has meant FA’s with warts. Occasionally we’ll hit the jackpot, but more often than not we’ll get the Eric Karros’, Mike Piazza’s, and Giambi’s of the world. Just how it works out.

Beane = #1 trader, period.

…..just notsomuch with signin the FA’s…..

by PL78 on Aug 7, 2009 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

My point is.......

you have to take chances in certain areas of the game if your in Billy’s position. We cant play with the big money teams in the FA market, so we have to play on the edges and try and find diamonds in the rough.

Orodawg,

Did we not sign Wuertz to an extension though? So Billy was able to find value from another teams throwaway. Also, Cabrera was a FA too, and he did rather well in an A’s uni, at least enough to net us a decent SS prospect. I’d say Billy is 50/50 this season FA wise.

We didn't sign Wuertz to an extension, Wuertz was pre-FA when the A's traded for him

He goes to arb for 2 more years, IIRC.

I don't understand all the hate for Crosby, if the A's had a league average

offense, like most contenders have, Crosby would be a very valuable player, he has made himself defensively competent, at every position in the infield, and could play outfield in a pinch. If isn’t his fault he makes so much money, who in there right mind would say no, when Billy made the offer.

by theblackpearl on Aug 7, 2009 4:24 PM PDT reply actions

but hes gone at the end of the season........

and thats just a fact. If Billy could have gotten something for him he would have already. Its my belief Billy has kept Bobby out of spite cause he does have value to many teams if released, and Billy wants something in return even if it means paying a team the majority of BoCros contract for the rest of the season.

We will see…..

I dunno

Crosby was placed on waivers at the beginning of the season. No one claimed him. Why would they want him now? It’s not as if he’s improved at all over the years.

Matt Abedi

by mattabedi on Aug 7, 2009 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions

again, its the money.......

if someone claims him, they have to pay him, and then he is not worth it. But as a released player he would be swooped up in an instant for the rest of the season at the league minimum.

Defensively competent at 3rd Base?

I don’t think so… He kicked more balls in his games at 3rd. First base, fine, but let’s face it, 1st just isn’t as tough a spot. Ok at second (I guess, how many games has he played there?) and short, but not any better than anyone else, and he simply doesn’t inspire confidence anymore, right?

by paris7 on Aug 7, 2009 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Wait, Crosby inspired confidence?

When?
