BEAST!

Chris Carter entered a villiage where an ogre had devoured all the crops and livestock, and Chris Carter asked the people of the village, "Have you no beasts of labor with which to pay tribute me?" And the people answered, "No, the ogre has taken our livestock," and with one mighty swing of his bat Chris Carter felled the ogre, and Chris Carter did proclaim, "Let my people be free," and it was so. - Aufheben

The first one was a no-doubter

Second was a bit higher, I think. The last one seemed like it was up there a while and was more down the left field line.

All three cleared with plenty to spare.

but not in quite some time. They are memorable.

Tried it a little and it took up way too much space on my card, and I have an 8 GB in there.

I tend to play with the contrast a bit in editing later, though.

I shoot raw with an 8GB card

I have a D200 and the files are 15.4 MB, so I can hold about 480 or so on the card. Of course, I don’t shoot sports much, so 480 is plenty. I shoot mostly film and I get 15 shots per roll, so 480 seems like a huge amount.

Anyway, if you are using Photoshop, you should be able to open jpegs in Adobe Camera Raw and selectively adjust shadow and highlight areas. I love ACR, and I love shooting raw because I can adjust the white balance so easily after the fact. After making corrections in ACR, I usually just adjust levels and curves, reduce noise, and sharpen. If they’re portraits, I may touch up blemishes too. It’s fast and looks good.

That's a great photo, Flashfire

And a beautiful swing by Carter. He’s on balance, with an excellent weight shift (just his back toe still on the ground, and his left leg almost vertical), his swing looks pretty level (not rolling over with his top hand), and his head is down.

Also, interesting that he uses a traditional ash bat, not maple.

Not interesting at all.

Maple bats suck. Carter would be exploding those stupid things every other time he made contact.

he seems to purposely be working on fielding with one hand

At the 23 second mark, he fields a ground ball with 2 hands, and seems to get told that’s a no no. You see him look to the home plate area and then swipe with his glove.

Also seemed to be trying to keep his left foot back or at least even. This makes sense when you’re fielding a one handed ground ball as a third baseman, you need to have your hips opened some to allow you to sweep the glove back, as the drill appears to be intended, and also allows a better angle to step the right foot across, square to the first base bag. This especially true from the grass, and not deep (which would be more like a SS). Compare this with the SS footwork, where you prefer your left to be slightly ahead of your right foot (maybe heel to toe) as you field “through” the ball, and now step across with your right foot, plant and throw. It’s just about the angle.

Jeter fielding a ground ball, left foot in front. Jeter Link

His throwing motion is pretty bad, yeah.

That’s definitely the first thing I noticed. His fielding mechanics are pretty shaky, too. It’s almost as if he can’t/doesn’t bend down far enough to cleanly get to the ball so he’s forced to swipe at it instead.

Thankfully Wash will be able to ohhhhhh wait.

to put things in perspective...

ryan howard age 24 season between AA and AAA (same year he got his first taste of the majors):
131(G),111(H),18(2B),1(3B),37(HR),102(RBI),46(BB),129(SO)

chris carter age 22 season between AA and AAA (with about 20 less games at the AAA level than howard above):
131(G),174(H),42(2B),2(3B),27(HR),113(RBI),82(BB),124(SO)

pretty epic so far.

hes a college player

who didn’t hit the first two years in the minors. In the FSL which is the biggest pitchers league in the minors he slightly gains in his ISO but is K to BB rate is 3:1 and his walk rate dropped and his k rate rose. Which really shouldn’t predict at 24 that he has .120 ISO gain and a .340 ISO at AA but rather a prospect that won’t work out. Which kinda looked flukey in itself because his doubles to homers rate just craters. That and the number of people that have their first full season in the big leagues and win the MVP at 26 is very very very small.
