Good to see DLS pitching...

Brown/Desme
Are sure as hell fun to follow. Both could be true 5 tool players.
"Carter's 25-game hitting streak isn't any normal streak. He's 46 for 97 (.474 average) during the run, adding 16 walks and compiling 81 total bases in the process. I'm out of superlatives for what he's doing." - Kevin Goldstein
Glad to see Brown coming back a little,
and DLS pitching at all.
Who will be up?
The ovious will be a infielder so that means Patterson or Petit. I must think another outfielder in Buck or Cunningham. Wallace is next with the A’s giving him a test for next year. A few pitchers in Blevins and Eveland since both on 40 man roster.
Wallace won't be up because he's not on the 40 man roster
You’ll probably see familiar faces, like Patterson for utility flexibility, Buck/Cunningham for more of a trial, maybe Mortensen?

It feels like this is the first minors update....
…..where neither Wallace or Carter has hit a HR.
Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Thankfully, Matt Spencer, Corey Brown, and Jemile Weeks all chipped in.
Corey had two. And two walks!
Actually that's a goof
He didn’t have any walks. (It didn’t look like the kind of game where he could have 6 plate appearances, so I clicked through to the box score.)
He also doesn’t seem to be in the lineup for the game in progress right now. Does anybody know about his injuries? Is there something going on where he doesn’t get to play back-to-back games for some reason?
It’s such a letdown!

I'm not expecting any major prospects coming up in September
I think it’s probably going to be a lot of outfielders and relievers already on the 40-man roster. The only really exciting guy should be Henry Rodriguez
Another interesting question is who do you think the A’s well send to the Arizona Fall League? Rosters should be released in a week or so and I could see names like Corey Brown, Jemile Weeks, maybe Sean Doolittle again, Grant Desme as position players and maybe pitchers like Jared Lansford, Dan Thomas, Fautino De Los Santos, James Simmons, Ben Hornbeck getting selected as well.
Hard to know who will get chosen but there should be some good names on the roster.
I hope Doolittle goes again.
He needs some ABs.

AFL
First, does anyone know if MLB has replaced the Hawaii Winter League? I thought MLB was going to institute a new winter league in Arizona to replace HWB. HWB was generally for A prospects while AA and AAA prospects went to AFL.
If there is a new league replacing HWB, the top Kane County and Stockton propects will go there, with lesser prospects going to Instructs.
In general, the cream of the crop AA and AAA prospects will attend AFL. That could mean:
Position players- We could just send the RockHounds and beat most of the other teams.
Brett Wallace
Adrian Cardenas
Corey Brown
Jemile Weeks
Sean Doolittle
Josh Donaldson
Matt Spencer
Pitchers- For once, I don’t think we are sending that many pitchers this year.
Sam Demel
Jared Lansford
Mike Benacka
Graham Godfrey
others are either hurt, worn out, or waiting until next year

I actually caught an interview with i think the AFL director by Buan during a rain delay a few weeks back regarding the loss of the HWL and AFL. If I’m remembering the interview correctly the AFL guy said that they would allow no more then 1 exceptional A player per team to fill the the loss of the HWL for this season. Next year there should be a AFL II that would solely consist of A and possibly Rookie league prospects and returning the AFL back to AAA AA players.
What are the guidelines for AFL rosters?
I thought it was 6 players from each team, usually 3 position players and 3 pitchers coming from AAA or AA with one spot going to an A ball player. Of course I’m just going off the top of my head here so I wouldn’t be all that surprised if it was something completely different.
Think you are correct
Limit of 6 AFL players per major league team with only one of those 6 possibly coming from A-ball.
I guess I need to limit my AFL guess to:
Wallace
Carter
Doolittle (he needs the work)
Demel
Lansford (Rule 5 eligible this year, I think)
Benacka
This saves all our starting pitchers who got plenty of work this year. DLS would be the exception, but I don’t think he is ready for AFL yet in his rehab.

I'm pretty sure the A's will protect Lansford
He needs to be added to the 40 man roster correct?
Only if you're worried about him being taken (and kept) in Rule 5
I haven’t polled MLB GMs on this issue, but I would offhandedly guess that the odds of that happening are somewhere up there with the odds of me beating Usain Bolt in a race to the grocery store.
I mean, the A’s signed Jon Hunton, who is way better than Jared Lansford, as a minor league free agent last season. And he’s STILL not much of a prospect.

Though it should be noted that if the A's could draft Lansford,
they probably would because Rule 5 picks are for grabbing Mike Neu, Ryan Goleski, and Ben Copeland.

Ryan Goleski and Ben Copeland were far, far better prospects than Jared Lansford

I'm just being vaguely bitter about the A's Rule 5 approach

Pretty good list
I could see Brown or Weeks getting the call because both missed a pretty good amount of time this year due to injury.
It’s tough to make the call with pitchers because most teams don’t like to send their top pitchers out there so I could see a lot of relievers. I think FDLS if he is healthy because the A’s might want to see if he could handle a placement in AA to start next season. The most obvious spot for him is back in A+ but due to his age the A’s may want to be aggressive and giving him a few innings in Arizona could be a good litmus test.
Hornbeck’s name popped in my head because it may explain why the A’s moved him into the bullpen if they are trying to limit his innings so he can get some work in the AFL.
Too many first basemen
My guess would be;
Cardenas
Wallace
Desme
Rodriguez
Demel
Simmons
