5 Hr's in one week, not too bad.
| No. 1 BRETT WALLACE, 3B |
ATHLETICS |
Team: Triple-A Sacramento (Pacific Coast)Age: 22 Why He's Here: .419/.486/.935 (13-for-31), 5 HR, 1 2B, 9 RBIs, 9 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 1-for-2 SB The Scoop: Trading Wallace to the A's for Matt Holliday could well be the move that propels the Cardinals to another World Series championship, but Wallace gave his old team a powerful reminder of what they gave up this week. Wallace homered on consecutive nights against his old club, Memphis, where he'd played from early May through the trade in late July. He didn't stop there, homering three more times over the next two nights in Nashville. Overall, Wallace has recorded base hits in 11 of his last 12 games and, in just his first full season as a pro, has shown his bat is already advanced enough to handle Triple-A. He's batting .306/.361/.556 with seven home runs in 108 at-bats since the trade and .297/.351/.467 with 13 long balls for the season in the PCL. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/prospect-hot-sheet/2009/268728.html |

No. 5 ADRIAN CARDENAS, 2B ATHLETICS
Yeah
Saw that too.
I was shocked at just how well Cardenas has been doing since the promotion…

Especially since he was so awful during his last promotion.

I hope for a day when we must call Carter and Wallace
BEAST 1 and BEAST 2.
That make Tonto very happy, lots of Wap-a-pap left and right (literally).

Thing 1 and Thing 2
provide better rhyming.
CuttheMullet, from "The Thread":
"Whenever I’m about to do something, I think "would an idiot do that?" and if they would, I do not do that thing."
Wow, a stolen base from Brett Wallace.
According to Fangraphs and Baseball Reference (I had to double check this), that was his first ever stolen base as a professional baseball player.
Sometimes you just have to let your speed take over.

They have institutes that you can go to when that happens so that you can get better.

Yeah, my brother gets out on Sunday.
4 weeks is a long time when you’re waiting to see somebody.

Forget FWP (Fast Willie Parker)!
It’s all about FBW!
Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer
PaulThomas: I think Keith Law is only a fourth analyst
I wonder how many steps he took?
I have this vision of little tree-trunk clomps, one after the other, until suddenly — finally — he arrives at 2B!

Also Impressive
Carlos Gonzalez has hit 6 HR’s over his last 10 games in the major leagues. With 4 of those being outside of Colorado.
Nate Colbert did it in a day.
Holy crap, the Padres played 16 double-headers that season.
I'm here to talk about the past.
Not quite Cargo, but ...
Wow. That trade is looking like a potentially epic nightmare…
Uhm
I’d trade Cargo for Wallace every day and twice on Sundays.

I just don't understand this at all
At all.

I would much rather have an excellent defensive center fielder with huge upside with the bat
versus a 1b/DH with a higher floor with the bat but similar upside.

I think you and PT are agreeing
Although you’re going to need to stop with the negative defensive creep on Wallace. First it was just 1B (which is silly since he’s actually playing 3B), but 1B/DH is nonsense. Has anyone ever suggested his glove doesn’t play at 1B?

Plenty of people have suggested he isn't likely to be more than average at first
in which case the team is probably better off running him out there at third and dealing with the nuclear fallout later, but that’s a separate issue.

BA did
from their trade central post on the holliday deal
Wallace is below-average defensively at the hot corner, but he’s free to move back to first—if not to DH—as a member of the A’s organization.

Cargo’s SSS has you fooled. dude wont be anything more than carl everett. he will have 1 or 2 good-to-great years but the hole in his swing is unfix-able and wont guarantee a long effective career
wallace on the other hand
is starting to look like the ryan braun/jim thome kind of player. the kind of player with 500+ HR in his bat. id take raj davis+wallace over cargo+raj davis on bench and no 3B for 2+ years
I must have missed the AN memo where it became OK to simply invent facts out of thin air

Not surprising

So Cargo's SSS has people fooled,
and yet you’re basing
wallace on the other hand is starting to look like the ryan braun/jim thome kind of player
on Wallace’s one great week last week. Huh.

How do you know Gonzalez can't fix whatever problem he has?

How do you know Wallace can't stick at 3B?

I don't think anyone worries he won't be able to stick at 3B
I think they’re worried he won’t be able to move from there.

hello my name is
small sample scale, perhaps we met years ago in 1997 when my name was Ben Grieve and we thought you would be the new Stan Musial?
I thought this was a bit funny....
“By his lofty standards, Double-A Midland 1B Chris Carter (Athletics) had a quiet week. The heavy-hitting 22-year-old batted .400/.464/.600 (10-for-25) with a homer and five RBIs. He’s also registered four straight multi-hit games”
I wonder how many of these guys we’ll get a look at when the roster expands…..
