Uniforms, is it time for a change?
Since the A's moved here in 1968 there have many changes, some good, some ugly. The Gold vest and gold pants come to mind. Charlie Finley gave the A's the green and gold in Kansas City and it turned the baseball world on it's head.
Since then some uniforms were plain crazy, The 1969 Expos, and defunct Seattle Pilots were wild, but will anything top the Astros of the mid to late 70's? But now to my point, I wonder if perhaps it is time to to make a change. The current uniform, which I have no particular dislike for, is traditional, but we have had it since 1987 with some minor changes. From a marketing standpoint a change may boost sales of the new uniform items, and perhaps, if it was changed from green and gold, back to blue and white it may appease the baseball gods to wash old Charlie O out of a once proud franchise.
However, in keeping with great tradition we still have a cheapskate ownership, Mack, Finley, Schott, Wolff. Only the Haas family was willing to be loose with the purse. The Haas family is where the current design came from, including the change from Kelley green, to the current forest green unveiled opening night 1982. The 1982 uniform was a traditional old time look as was worn yesterday, but the look failed, as the players complained that they were too tight. I guess any excuse was as good as any as that season stunk.
So my question to all of you is how would you feel about a change? Would it be too drastic to go back to the old blue and white? Keep the green and gold? I'm just curious, personally I think a change is long over due. If you wanted a change what would you do?

Don't see a need for drastic changes
but I really want a yellow alt jersey, instead of green or (especially) black.

I want yellow too!
But I like the current grren and black. Why not have home alternate, road alternate and a yellow jersey for Sundays?

most of the time I'm against a team having too many uniforms,
but the A’s should have:
a white jersey that says “Athletics”
a white jersey that says “A’s”
a yellow jersey that says “A’s”
a green jersey that says “A’s”
a gray jersey that says “Oakland”

I'm not a fan of the forest green ( yuck.) , bring back the Kelley!
How about kelly green and white w/ some gold/ yellow accents.

I'm with you
I never liked the forest green, when they introduced it in 1982, Roy Eisenhart said it was to end the Finley era. I liked the Kelly green, but the green shoes? The league had enough of a problem accepting the white shoes, ick.

so I can wear one of each pair to all the A’s games I go to. That would be awesome.

Way awesome!
You need to find another A’s fan with the same size feet. Then you each buy a pair in one color, swap one shoe, and you each have a (mis)matched set.

I like the kelly green unis.
But I have to admit, the blue & white looked pretty spanking clean yesterday.

Yea, I have always been a fan of the athletic gold. I wish gold was still the sock color. I like color in a uniform. I would be happy with any change as long as the colors stayed the same, green and gold. If it’s kelly green for a retro look that’s fine.
I was looking at some of my old A’s baseball cards from the early 80’s and thought the green and gold belt they wore was an interesting splash of color. I also like that they had a green and gold single stripe on the outside of each leg (is the term piping?).
I do think the current uniform is rather bland. Like someone said before at the very least go with an athletic gold alternate jersey. What would it hurt?

The Marlins were almost the Flamingos which would have been pink unis eeek!
I actually root for all of those teams. The Marlins are an intellectual thing though, I like their FO and they do things very different than the A’s do. Their unis are terrible though, and teal has no place in baseball. Football and Hockey Im ok with especially if you have a water themed mascot like the sharks. The Jags have a much darker color which I don’t mind.

Ditto.
No changes necessary — the green n’ gold is unique throughout the majors. There’s far too much blue out there.
Though, I do confess to liking the black alternates. But then again, I prefer the all green road caps.
+1
as others have said, just replace the black alternates with golds and everything will be jake. the home whites with the yellow-billed cap with the A in white are the crispest most awesome uniforms in MLB. if we could get everybody wearing proper stirrups (good effort raj, but you’re getting it wrong), i think we’d win a WS on karma alone.
I'd be so happy if the black alternates were banished.
I would love a gold alt uni.

I'd like
to see more apparel that says “Oakland” on it. Seems to be missing from the shelves these days.
I don't see
Too many alternate jersey’s with the city name on them… I can’t think of a one actually. Can anyone else think of one?
the tradition is
to have your team name on the homes and your city on the roads. baltimore switched back to that convention this year after some long hiatus. i think it had something to do with not wanting to alienate fans closer to the DC area when DC didn’t have a team. but i digress…
more fan apparel with Oakland on it would be good, but i like the current traditional uniform scheme.

Green and gold forever.
No black, no blue, no red, no teal. Adding more gold is OK. Switching to kelly green is OK. But stick with the green and gold. No color change.
(Well, unless it’s to pink. I’d be on board with that, but it’ll never happen in a million years.)

Definitely would like to see a change
Too much white on the current unis. Not even a colored stripe to be found. And the white shoes aren’t helping – we look like brides-to-be wearing green hats. Would like to see kelly green w/yellow or forest green w/gold (actual gold, not the yellow we currently refer to as “gold”). And an all-green hat. That green with the yellow bill business is not something that anyone should have to wear.
i think the hat looks great
to each their own i guess

the white is unique and has a certain element of class to it
the lack of misplaced stripes gives it a clean feel, as opposed to the awful forced pinstripes that the Anaheim Angels were wearing in the mid-late 90s. i actually think the white shoes are a plus. they make them look like they’re running faster…

The only Angels uniform piece that doesn't suck
Is the cool old hat that had a tinsel like halo on it.
I have two
One with the"CA" and one with the “LA”. Years ago I was in a junk shop in Ripon and found a 1961 Angles batting helmet, a game hemlet. I went to buy it and the owner gave it to me. Still has the halo on it.

yeah i did love the halo, and California Angels sounded a lot better than the 2 attempts they've had since
They have an interesting begining
When they came into the league in 1961, they played in Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, a very small venue but at least it was a baseball stadium, unlike the LA coliseium. Then they shared Chavez Ravine with the Dodgers until they were kicked out and moved to the big A. Then they became the California Angeles, who heard of Anaheim? I agree that California Angeles had a good sound to it, certainly better than the mess they have now.

should be something more Californian, like “California Vaqueros” or “California Drillers” (as in oil well drilling), even Los Angeles Blue Sox, anything but….what is an “Angel” anyway?

I like the look from the 73-76 era.
The current home uniform is a bit bland. The road is not that bad. I tend to agree that the alternate should be either the kelly green with a white A’s, a gold one with a green A’s or a white one with a gold A’s. Hell, make the all three:
1. Kelly green w/ white A’s on upper left of chest … Road alt.
2. Gold w/ green A’s on upper left of chest … Home alt
3. White w/ gold A’s on upper left of chest … Sunday home only.
The Swingin A'zzzzzzzzzzzzz!!
Hmmm, uniforms...
As much as I love the ’29 throwback unis from Sunday, and some other old ones too, I would not favor going back to the old color scheme. Stay Green & gold.
I detest the black alternate jerseys. I would like to see gold alternate jerseys. I’d even like to see managers and coaches wearing white hats, ala 70s.
I like the classic look we have now. In fact, the only classier uni currently is the Tigers’ home unis. Those are the best of anybody.
IF… for some strange reason… we did go back to the old color scheme, then I’d prefer it be kept simple and classy like what was worn on Sunday.
And what’s all this crazy talk…
…to wash old Charlie O out of a once proud franchise.
What’s wrong with Charlie? He gave us great baseball and is the ONLY non-Yankee owner to put together three straight WS titles. Not even the great Connie Mack could do that… and he didn;t even have to win a playoff series first.
In 2008 I was watching a team that was rebuilding. In 2009 I feel like I'm watching a team that just sucks.
+1 on the coaching staff wearing white hats...
1B and 3B coaches should wear white helmets, too…

Prefer to stick with green and gold.
Actually, I pretty much prefer things the way they are. Home whites and road grays are nice, different color scheme without being loud and obnoxious.
I don’t care for the black alt jerseys, but I like the green ones. Gold jerseys I’m not a fan of. Those always look like eyesores to me.
If you go back
And look at the KC A’s uniforms of the mid to late 60’s all gold, and the green undershirt had the uniform number on the sleeve, wow. Talk about overgolding.

I wouldn't be able to stomach a color change, at least from green and gold.
I might be able to take a different green. Maybe a variation uniform with something like a baby green (#99FF99 maybe?) and cream (#FFFFCC) instead of white for an occasional day game.
I think if there is any major changes in uniform design (including an overall color change), they should be debuted in 2011 along with the shiny new youngsters.
I like the A's home whites
and road greys. I don’t like the green tops as they look like a beer league softball uniform and the black jerseys are a sin against all of mankind. I’d like to see the A’s keep the simple two uniforms as I think they’re sharp and unique.
The blue old school uniforms are nice but so many teams have a blue white combo for their colors so I say stick with the green and gold and white shoes.
the idea of changing the colors is blasphemy to me. the A’s are green and gold!
i wouldn’t mind if they brought these jerseys back:

I like these a lot
because they give a nod to the Philly days.

I liked those as well, but the players did not. They complained that they fit too tight, I think the team was just not that good, and Billy Martin was out of his mind. I would be fine with these as well. It’s not that I don’t like the current uniforms, it’s just been 22 years since we have had a change. Seems that several people miss the gold tops, maybe take the black one out and replace it with a 70’s retro gold as an alternate would be cool.

I remember those.
They’re not bad at all, but they look a little like softball jerseys to me. I wonder how they would look if the color scheme was reversed, and, say, the ‘A’ was white.
And is it because the black is too “gangsta” or something else? I wouldn’t mind seeing some more green n’ gold on them, though.

I really liked these uniforms,
I’d be ok with maybe going with a brighter shade of green, but I think the 83 unis had it all.
