I've been impressed with Capra
I have to admit I didn’t like the pick when he was drafted as I thought he looked like minor league filler, but leading the A’s minor leagues in K’s is pretty eye catching. The change-up sounds like the real deal.
Still has a way to go as the A to AA transition is often seen as the biggest jump in the minors, (especially for soft-tossing control pitchers) but you can’t ignore what Capra has managed to do thus far.
Same here.
It’s not a good comp, he’s a bit of a Dallas Braden being a nasty strikeout pitcher with a sub-par fastball. It’s nice, after seeing the top two levels of the system drained of pitching this year, so see a new wave of good pitching coming in Simmons, Capra, Ross, DLS, and Leon.

Looking up his stats, he's not a control pitcher.
In Kane County, his ratios were 9.3 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9. Since his promotion to Stockton, he’s at 12.4 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9. He’s striking out a ton of guys, and his ratio is at a healthy 2.67 K/BB, but he’s got to stop walking so many people before we label him a control pitcher.
Yea, you're right
“control pitcher” isn’t really an apt description. I was trying to make the point that he seems like the mature college type with good pitchability that is able to rack up strike outs against weaker competition despite somewhat sub-par “stuff”. Suggesting that while he has definitely improved his standing in my eyes I am still anxious to see how he handles the transition to AA next year.
The Cal League is a notorious hitters’ league. I’m excited too, but it does need to be tempered by his walk rate. If he could cut that down to ~2.7 BB/9, even if his K/9 falls to 9, I’d be thrilled.
I always wonder about the impact of A-ball umps on BB/K numbers
We complain about strike/ball calls in A’s games, but major-league umps are still way better than the guys in A-ball.
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
My thoughts.
1) Wimberly can’t hit the ball more then 5 feet, he may be batting .300, but he make Cliff Pennington look like Frank Thomas.
2) A lot of the A’s hitting prospects look to be tired, especially college hitters like Coleman and Weeks. It’s sort of like how Sean Doolittle was last year.
3) Could Leyja start ’10 in Stockton?
4) I think we need to see how Dixon handles the instructs before deciding where he goes. He was hitting well before his injury, and might benefit from a full year of playing time in Kane County next year. He also might benefit from getting out of Vancouver/Kane county and into some of the more forgiving parks in the upper system, so I’d like a more aggressive approach taken with promoting him and not leave him in the lower level too long unless there is a real good reason for it.
5) I like all the power prospects. I think everyone who is campaigning for the A’s to keep the same team in ‘10 needs to read PaulThomas’s post. This team is a long way, even with some key free agent pick-ups, from the ‘06 team that had a middle of the order of Bradley, Thomas, Chavez, and Swisher; hell, we’d kill for one hitter like that now and that’s the problem. The A’s desperatly need the Wallaces, Carters, Doolittles, and Browns to come up and be successful to supplement the talent from free agency if the A’s want to win more then 87 games any time soon. As much as the fans like the current powerless speedsters (probably because they are better then the worst in baseball bats we had at those positions before) you don’t go to the post season with a team full of Raji Davis’ and Cliff Penningtons’.

Cardenas DH: 0-3, R, RBI, BB, .188
That is really starting to worry me.
not me, he's continuing with his pattern
He sucks at a new level, but once he returns there, he dominates it.
Don't believe in yourself.
Believe in Me who believes in You.
They should call him up to Oakland twice.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal
