Open Thread: Game 114 - A's at O's (cont)
Vin Mazzaro lulled all of us into thinking that he may escape the big inning that has plagued him this year; but after dominating Baltimore for the first five innings, things fell apart for him in the sixth, as the O's cut the A's lead to 4-3. Breslow came to his rescue to save the lead for now, but the A's should have about 10 runs from all the chances they've had in the game. Let's hope they can score; we're going to the seventh!

but, he was up last year, didn't do much
I think he is simply a player that needed the proper seasoning, and perhaps he is a textbook example of how you handle a first-round pick so that he lives up to his potential. You give him a taste at the MLB level, let him work on his deficiencies, observe that he has progressed, and tell him, “OK, the job is yours. We are confident in you. Go do what you do.”
We’ll see next year.
How are good numbers and weeks in the sun related??

Yep.
I was in KC and a Sprint employee told me that it would be available on Monday according to an email employees received. Of course we are talking about EverythingPlus because SERO is no longer the verbiage they are using. The problem is that you can’t do anything on the website w/o an employee email address and it could be a recipe for disaster if you talk to the wrong person on the telephone.

Good Observations
some guys never get mentally wired to succeed at the major league level. Happens a lot.
Reminds me of a story about Stan Musial. In a later years, a player who had a career in MLB of only a handful of games related that, while he was on the Cardinals, the great Musial invited him out for a dinner, just the rookie and Musial. He confessed in the course of eating dinner, that, during ballgames, he just got so nervous that he would simply fall apart and could not execute. Stan put his hand on his arm and said, “You know what? I’m nervous out there too! Why, if you aren’t nervous playing in a big league ballgame, why you might as well hang ’em up!”

I print out (somewhat) useful stats.
Entry list, qualifying order, driver points, owner points, qualifying sheet for writing down the times, past race finishes…. most of the same stuff for the West Series drivers. I cust and paste the info from different websites and use Excel to format the rows and make them all pretty-like. I carry it all in a binder. Any other things like cards or whatnot that I want to get signed go in the binder too.
I’ve impressed many-a-people in the stands with my ‘nascar-dorkyness.’

That sounds awesome!
I love that sort of thing but have neither a) been to a race nor b) ever taken the time to do something like that. So I admire and swirl numbers in my head from afar.
Now if I were to so something like that, that would be the one day I would be sitting next to the drunk lunatic that can’t comprehend any of it and tries to kick my @$$. :)

Nope. Just Excel.
Access can be great if used properly. Sounds like super powers or someting. “If only he used his MS Office for good and not evil…”

Too many cells.
