Visual Representation of the 2006 Oakland Athletics
It's nice to look back at brighter days. Although it probably wasn't the best team of the 2000's (that would either be 2001 or 2002, they both won 100+), it was the only team that got past the ALDS. After the jump is a visual diagram of the 2006 Oakland A's, showing when they came and left Oakland. Hint: Just three years later, we don't even have a fifth of this roster still with us.
Orange marks a season with the A's, where gold highlights the 2006 ALDS-winning season. Brown indicates a season played elsewhere, not in Oakland.
In the case of a player playing for multiple teams in a season, I went with whichever team he played more games for in that year. Batters are sorted by games played, and pitchers are sorted by innings pitched.
I got the idea when I found a similar chart done by Craig Robinson on the 1986 World Series-winning Mets. Check his site out, guys, it's got a lot more cool and interesting visual charts.

Seems like forever ago that we had Blanton and Harden.
Yet it was just last season.
Good post, BTW.
I'm here to talk about the past.

Often, the brain will block traumatic memories.
And that’s what Antonio Perez is.

Hah.
I remembered Antonio Perez. And D’Angelo Jimenez, vaguely, if only for playing the entire ALCS. But Randy Keisler? Doug Clark? Scott Sauerbeck? Literally no recollection whatsoever.

Me neither
Can’t remember several of those relievers… what, maybe they pitched for about 3 batters one game?! Is Shane Komine still around?
I remember 2006 well, I even went to our home playoff game!

I remember all of them except Doug Clark.
Doug Clark? Never even heard the name, that I can recall.

Matt Roney is the guy I don't know.
Probably because he played in 3 games. Doug Clark saw all of 6 games (6 at bats) with the A’s, and 11 games total in his MLB career.

yeah really
I don’t remember them at all. I also forgot that Steve Karsay was back with the A’s one last time. I remember the retirement announcement.

The flipflopflyin' site is great, highly recommended!
The recent graph showing youngsters how to remove the sticker from their new caps is priceless. The only thing he forgot was how to also bend the bill before wearing it.
This graph is also several kinds of awesome, thanks for making it.

Very cool
Somehow I knew that Ellis was the 2nd longest tenured A (well, tied with Duke for 2nd) but seeing it in graphical form makes it more pronounced.

just one thing
we had milton in 2007 for a little bit until we DFAed him. the chart says we didn’t have him at all that year.
sorry to nitpick, just thought I should mention it.

We did.
But he played more games for San Diego that year, so I considered him with another team. Maybe I should have done a half/half color for partial seasons.

Great post!
Except for making me think of Perez and Jimenez. To hell with accuracy, feel free to leave those guys out of your next chart.

Haha.
Rest assured, if I make another one, Hannahan will be in teeny, teeny font.

Thanks for the link.
There’s some cool stuff at the site. I never knew (or thought about really) how symmetrical our ballpark is! I also like the graph/ic of spring training parks – since I am contemplating a trip next spring. Gives me a great perspective.

Great Job and Great Link
Thanks for making this. Your inspiration is from a WOW site. Those graphics are mind-blowing; each could stand as a printed poster. Must be a graphic designer behind those.
