7/7 Minor Athletics
How does this Scott Hairston trade affect the development of our young guys? We are looking to hold on to Scott for the next two or three years due to his inexpensive contract. Where does that put guys like Cunningham, Doolittle, Brown, Spencer, Sulentic, and of course, our personal favorite T-Buck Chuck? Here's how our system faired yesterday:

Simmons SP: L (4-5) 5 IP, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K (James always seems to take on step forward and two steps back. This is in reference to his previous start, a complete game. Simmons is still merely 22 years old, so another year in AAA would be good for him.

The stirrups have returned!
Where do people see him getting assigned once he’s through with AZL?
Midland or Sacto?

My guess would be Midland
Meaning more pine time for Michael Affronti

thats a good question
In Midland we have Cardenas Valdez and corey Brown
Sacto:Petit pennington patterson(Is he the regular CFer)
My guess is the Show, we have a serious problem. Outman + DL=A’s – Stirrups(Idont count Croz)=A’s Unwatchable

What a shame
Buck isn’t even playing everyday in Triple-A.
Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer

Then get Pennington and Patterson up to The Show
and bid OCab and Nomar and Crosby good bye.

Desme:
sky high K%. 101/28 K/BB for the year. On a pace for 200 Ks in a major league-length season. That will not cut it at all. He needs to make big improvements.

give him a break!
he barely played in 2 seasons…making up for lost time.
he showed a solid approach in college. Staying healthy step 1, step 2 showing an interesting power/speed/defense/combo, step 3 cut the K’s. Consider 09 his 1st full milb season
http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/events/draft_report/y2007/index.jsp?mc=desme
Hitting Ability: Desme has the potential to hit for average and makes adjustments, but struggles with good breaking stuff.
Power: He’s got decent power now and has the chance to have solid-average to plus power in the future.
Running Speed: He’s an average runner in terms of pure speed, though he does have good first step quickness.
Base Running: Desme has shown good instincts for stealing bases.
Arm Strength: Cal Poly’s right fielder, he throws well enough to stay there as a pro.
Fielding: Recruited as a shortstop, Desme is a very athletic outfielder.
Physical Description: Desme is a strong athletic shortstop-turned-outfielder.
Medical Update: Healthy.
Strengths: Desme has five-tool potential and can do just about everything well.
Weaknesses: While he does make adjustments at the plate, he struggles with breaking stuff.
Summary: Desme was a college bat on the rise before a broken wrist ended his season early. It’s not expected that his injury will have a huge impact on his draft status. A five-tool player, he could be one of the better college position players in the draft, especially considering the dearth of college offensive talent in this class.

He didn't really show a solid approach in college
High K rates in a second-rate conference; low BA and obp in his first two years. I’m not counting him out. He has excellent power and should have very good defensive value. But he needs to improve his contact a lot. If he doesn’t improve his contact, he’ll never see the majors, and if he only moderately improves his contact, he’ll be 2009 Chris Young.

I've been able to catch a couple Ports games recently
And while Desme is a great baserunner with some pop, he can’t for the life of him lay off breaking balls out of the zone.

Any guesses on what happened to Coleman?
Dusty has been MIA for the last few games in Kane County.

Patterson lined up at 3B in Sacramento
Hannahan was in the line-up playing 2B so it wasn’t an emergency situation. I always assumed Patterson didn’t have the arm to play third, and maybe he doesn’t, but it looks like they might be giving him a shot. Maybe as insurance in case Kennedy gets traded at the deadline?
This may turn out to mean nothing but it’s at least interesting to think of a new possiblity for Patterson to get an extended look in the majors.

They probably want a natural position for him to play
in the off-chance he starts hitting 30 HRs a year.

Would be nice
Then we could get a 25 HR increase on our usual third base production.
