Six years...
that is how long it's been since the A's had a position player in the All Star Game. That says a lot about how inept this team has been offensively! It's comforting to know that we just picked up another mediocre outfielder, I guess we don't already have enough of them. Right now, this franchise might be in the worst position of any in MLB...outdated stadium, terrible attendance, 0 legitimate superstar players, no new stadium in sight; I could go on and on, but it makes me sick to do so.

Early front runner for feel-good diary of the month!
Batting 4th for the 2014 San Jose A's: 26-year-old RF Justin Upton, in the 1st season of a nine year, $250M deal.
Since watching the A's from late 60s on I have never felt this much Warm and Fuzzy!!!!

Yeah
I am not a fan of judging how well a team is doing based on how many “all stars” they have on the team.
That is not really a good measure of how the team is doing. 2 and half years since the last play off appearance is more appropriate. And that isn’t really all that bad… just ask the Giants, Royals, Mariners, Rangers, Blue Jays, Orioles, etc. I wonder how many of those teams have had position player all stars in the last 6 years and if they feel successful as a result.

Just because we have not had a postion player does not mean we have not
had players who were all-star caliber. If we have an OF who is hitting .310 with 22 HR and 68 RBI he is still going to lose out to the BOS/NYY OF who is hitting .294 with 15 HR and 52 RBI
East coast Bias is not just a joke we all use in our blogs. Look how long it took Miggy to crack the SS slot when he had better numbers than Jeter/Nomar. I will agree the last couple years we have not had an all-star caliber player other than pitchers but that has not always been the case.

I look at the abundance of starting pitchers we have going forward and am in awe
We just picked up Hairston and Cunningham, Buck and Sweeney are still young and can grow. Also we have a couple other OFers like Brown who will be up in a couple years.
We also have some really good infielders coming up like Cardenas, Weeks and others.
I think the A’s will contend next year and will be in the playoffs in 2011. Only this time it won’t be the big 3 it will be the big 5 with others waiting in the wind. I just can’t wait to see how FDLS does as he was the top of our pitching prospects before getting hurt. And Outman will be back after a year off so we will have a fantastic supply of pitchers and good core around them.

yeah, since seeing that photo of Chris Carter on Flashfires diary
I’m pretty excited to seem him hit lots of home runs.
He looks like a young Carlos Delgado
but more athletic, (pun intended)

I remember as a kid that show came on PBS right before Doctor Who
and the wait was interminable…
Now, as an adult, it’s kinda funny, although there are dozens of better britcoms…

I find it to be hilarious.
But then again, I love blatant innuendo. And the characters are so arch typical that anyone could turn it on for the first time and pretty much get who that character is in a nutshell.
I think it’s on one of the public stations on Friday afternoons. I have it set up on my DVR to always record. Makes for good Saturday morning watching.

quick…who was the last non-roider positional player from the A’s?
It wasn’t that long ago if you belive Ramon Hernandez was roid free. Prior to that, we have to go back to Ben Grieve (‘98), then Rubin Sierra (’94) and finally Steinie (’93). Was Sierra on roids?
My boyhood idol was a good pick: I loved watching Steinbach play. Glad I didn’t go with Mac or Jose.

Steinie was my man crush as well

I think there are many worse off franchises in baseball
1. We have solid pitching that can really do some damage
2. We have interesting position players In the minors who can help in the coming years.
3. the nationals are by far the worst
4. The padres are close behind
5. The pirates have not been IN the playoffs since the early 90’s
6. The reds have not been there since ‘95
7. The A’s are historically one of the greatest teams in the sport.
I’m sure there are allot more reasons but the A’s are not the worst off in baseball.
