Miguel Angel Sano and the A's
So I just found this article on mlbtraderumors.com about Miguel Angel Sano saying that Aroldis Chapman's availability might kill Sano's price tag. The Orioles are likely not going to be willing to pay much, and the Pirates might not be either. This could mean that instead of commanding Ynoa money, Sano might command even less than Wagner Mateo's $3.1 million. If that's true, I think this would be something the A's should jump on. If Beane considers Sano a first-round talent, sign him for $3 mil or whatever. Do you think it'd be prudent for the A's to try to jump in and sign Sano while other teams focus their money on Chapman? Also to be considered is the amount of money Max Stassi is asking for. If the A's had to choose one of the two, which one would you rather give money to, Stassi or Sano?

It's a tough question
As much as I would like the A’s to sign all the talented internationals out there we have to accept that there is a finite budget for amatuer talent. I’m going to assume that the A’s haven’t budgeted for the signing of Sano so if I had to choose I would rather have Stassi.
Both are talented but I’ll take the projectable catcher with the bloodlines over the third baseman with the raw bat.
I cant remember where I read it but if stassi can't stick behind the plate he can play 2b
which might be an asset. I think the real thing in Stassis’ favor is a better knowledge of the type of competition he has faced and being cheaper in addition to the premium position.
Also the MLBTR post is off of twitter… I hate twitter.

Or O-Fail.
And, we’d also have another shiny draftee!!! :-(

Draft Picks
The more I think about it, the more picks beyond the top 10 or 15 are becoming useless. Clearly, teams would love to be able to pick the superstud guys at the top, but once you get into the 15th to 50th best talents, those guys go anywhere from round 1 to round 10, based on signability. Guys who you could take in the 2nd might very well be there the next round. I’m starting to think that stockpiling draft picks isn’t a very big concern, so long as we don’t go to a hard slotting system like the NBA.
Hmmmm. Voted Stassi over Sano.
Do I think its prudent for the A’s to sign Sano? Yes. Absolutely. Go deep into the international market, again. And, position players are less risky than pitchers like Ynoa were.
Do I think Green and Stassi should be first priorities though? Yes again. Lesser bust risk, although Sano does have the higher ceiling (but then, who knows where he’ll play, etc.).

scouting reports
are scouting reports on sano credible? or substantial?
I'd have to say yes.
I’m betting that every team has sent scouts down there, and since he is an elite prospect, he’s gotten plenty of coverage from multiple sources. The A’s have most likely sent scouts down to look at him, even if they weren’t likely to sign him. This is just the Ynoa situation played out again.
