Tom Everidge to be called up!
From Scout.com
"OaklandClubhouse.com has confirmed with multiple sources that infielder Tom Everidge will be replacing an injured Daric Barton on the Oakland A's 25-man roster. Everidge will be making his major league debut. He is batting .382 for Sacramento this season and .338 with 17 homers in 98 games between Sacramento and Midland. Everidge, a North Bay native, was drafted by the A's in the 10th round in 2004. He has made a slow, but steady, climb through the A's organization. The Sonoma State grad won the Texas League RBI crown last season."
I really hope he continues to mash as we need it in the worst way.

So do the A's pull a buck with him?
Or is he gonna get an extended look at 1st base and I liked what patterson did today showing good hitting(NM the baserunning blunder)
HILLIS
I'd like to see him try a little 3B too
Ellis seems like he could use a couple days off

Dan Johnson/Wes Bankston redux
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Prob.
But stick him out there for 2 weeks. See if he sticks.
"Their Triple-A rotation, led by Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson, could be better than some big-league rotations; Michael Ynoa is the best Latin American prospect of the decade; 2008 draftees Jemile Weeks and Rashun Dixon bring much-needed tools to an advanced group of hitters." - BaseballProspectus.com
About 99.9% in agreement.
Who knows, maybe he could even be the next Erubial Durazo.
You know things are bad when Bobby Crosby doesn't have the lowest batting average of any starter, yet he's hitting .138. Yes, you're 2009 Oakland Athletics.

I don't like the Bankston comparison
Bankston wasn’t even really hitting all that well in AAA when we called him up; he had 20 HR, but was only hitting .280/.328/.496. Everidge in Sacramento is hitting .377/.424/.635. He could just be a late bloomer…Bankston made it to AAA and stalled there.

The Epitome' of Dan Johnson's
Sting with the A’s, was his self induced double vision: via his admiringly overzealous use of sunblock. Isn’t that fitting for a fledgling A’s player, Self induced double vision!?!?!
My buddy was in Japan, and actually saw him play for the yokohoma bay stars.
My naive belief in Crosby and Johnson would reach greatness…..has me second guessing my ability to judge young talen.
Sure, because every future player is like some past player on the same team
Maybe he isn’t either of these guys. I’m guessing you haven’t arrived at your conclusion with your thorough scouting and film of all three. I’m guessing you haven’t seen him play in the majors.
OMG you're right!
because he’s never played in the majors before. How could you have guessed that?!?!
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
great news. Barton's leg has proved way too fragil to stick at 1st.
but I had a one pulled ham and your gone policy on Barton for rest of this year. Please, can one of the hitters called up from Sac this year actually exceed expectations for once?
"Gratuitous gesticulating together sounds even better"
I'ver heard the stretch was pretty amazing a couple of times.
Anyone have a link to a highlight of it. I’ve looked around, but to no avail.
Wow
Thanks. That would pull a lot of hammies.
yeah, thanks
I wanted to see the play also.

Everidge, Carter, Doolittle...
all hitting well, all knocking on the door.
They’re being real patient with these guys.
Everidge had 115 RBI’s last year in AA, didn’t even get a look at AAA.
Carter had 39 HR’s in Stockton, and didn’t get to AA all year.
Doolittle was very solid between high A and AA.
Add in Wallace (.357 at Sac)…gees that sounds like a powerhouse lineup that can change the face of human baseball history.
How’s that for optimism.
Who needs homeruns?
The problem is getting them all on the field......
Carter can play both 1B, DH, and 3B in a real pinch
Doolittle 1B & RF
Everidge 3B & 1B & DH
Wallace 3B & 1B & DH
Cardenas 2B & 3B
It a good problem to have if they can all make it, and given current development track/projections, I would put it like this, (total best case scenario, and I doubt were this lucky as injuries happen)
2. Cardenas 2B
3. Wallace 3B
4. Carter DH
5. Everage 1B
6. Doolittle RF
Now thats a great looking 2-6 in the lineup. Of Course that leaves Weeks out, unless he can play centerfield in the majors, and thats still up in the air. I like Cardenas for his potential at the plate, but if it means Weeks is out of the leadoff spot of the future cause we have a better CF, then I think it goes like this.
2. Cardenas 3B
3. Wallace 1B
4. Carter DH
5. Doolittle RF
And that leaves Everage on the bench as there is no room to play.
Of course this is all hypothetical as it would be a minor miracle for all these guys to reach their potential at the plate in an organization that hasnt developed any great hitters since Tehada and Giambi almost a decade ago.

Don’t forget that Nick Swisher was drafted and developed by the A’s. He had a couple good years with the team and has been so-so this year.

Package
Weeks+ Prospect(s) for JJ Hardy this offseason
1B: Carter
2B: Cardenas
SS: Hardy
3B: Wallace
DH: Cust/Everidge
LF: Cunningham
CF: Corey Brown
RF: Doolittle/Hairston
by Colorado Fan on Jul 28, 2009 6:25 AM PDT up reply actions
I like it
Even with his abysmal offensive numbers Hardy is on track to be a 2.5 WAR player this season. He’ll only make about 5 mil next season. The Crew might be willing to accept such an offer given Hardy’s struggles this season, the impending arrival of Escobar, and the fact that J.J. is a FA after 2010.
by CapgrasDelusion on Jul 28, 2009 7:45 AM PDT up reply actions
I'd love that -- and it would mean
the A’s drafted Wallace over Weeks after all! Only problem is that Hardy is a FA after 2010, so if this team is built to come together in 2011 you either sign Hardy to an extension (and he has some say in that) or you’ve done another Holliday trade.
I like Cindi. A. She never pretends to know more than she does. B. She has unbridled enthusiasm for her "Hotties," and isn't afraid to show it. -IM4Oakgal
I don't believe half of those players will be ready next year
Maybe you could see that lineup at the end of 2010, but in my opinion, you’re going not going to see half of these players to start the year… and then in 2011, Hardy will be gone, unless he re-signs.
You’re also missing Buck.
The lineup next year (pre-trades or signing) may look like this:
1B: Barton
2B: Ellis
3B: Wallace – hopefully
SS: Petit/Pennington
C: Zook
OF: Cunningham, Sweeney, Buck, Hairston (platoon options) + Davis as the 5th
DH: Cust
Then hopefully in 2010 some of the other prospects can get a cup of coffee at some point… I am thinking guys like Cardenas, Carter, Doolittle are most likely.
Awful idea
Hardy=overrated. Plus free agent to be.
With the line he's producing this year, he'll probably be more underrated than overrated (but he's still gonna be around a 2 WAR player).
When was the last time the A’s had 2.5 WAR production from short? His defense is really good and if the A’s could buy low on him..

Not to nitpick
But Doolittle kinda sucked in AA last year (.699 OPS) and I think he got hurt, too.

Havent we seen enough of what rushing prospects does to their development! Do the name Barton, or buck ring a bell.

I thought Buck went from AA to MLB
and Barton spent time at each level.
EVERY........
player should play a full season at AAA. Or at least until post trade deadline/sept callup time. The developmental years are so key to success, and as much as we want to rush folks, cause we currently suck, we cant. This is about the future, not the present. Think 2011.
S&BP > Mile High Mules

I think they want the guys up sooner rather than later so that the players can contribute to a contending team in 2011 and not one that’s years away from that.

Totally agree. Players shouldn't be rushed period!
Jim Rice commented about player development in his post-induction interview this weekend. His take was that with so much emphasis on slugging – teaching players the fundamentals at all levels gets lost. His point was that players nowadays play a very different game than when he was coming up. Desired outcomes will always shape what is considered a fundamental.

I think it was unhelpful that he was so hyped up last season.
Too much pressure for him.
Dont blow Bailey.
He had a great 2007 season, though, for a rookie. I know it was just over 80 games, but it was still impressive.

Cage Free Tyson Ross
We can add that one when he has like three shutdown ML starts and they send him back to AAA.
Best stat about Ross' double A debut yesterday....
was his groundout/flyout ratio which was something real good like 12/3…..
rushing them from AA to the majors in one year mabey. I dont think a taste of higer minor leagues
is going to stunt the 1.000 OPS guys between one level of the minors. they both have holes in their swings but have little to prove where there at.
"Gratuitous gesticulating together sounds even better"
I think we should let things happen naturally......
Normally Callups happen in post trade deadline and in Sept. unless injury determines otherwise. That then clears room at AAA for AA callups, and gives a little time to adjust to the new level in preparation for the next season. If this is the case with Carter, whom they are being especially careful with as his star potential is ENORMOUS, He should reach AAA in the next month, start their next season, and if all goes well, get called up to the Bigs toward the end of next season.
S&BP > Mile High Mules
Carter cannot be rushed......
have you seen Carter? He is like a Ripped version of Howard. A young Big Hurt! The guy is enormous, or at least he looked that way in the futures game. Oh My!
S&BP > Mile High Mules
yeah, I got a boner when I saw that picture, too
wait, that’s not what you were saying?
injurys in the A's orginization happen naturally....
Barton was injured, other people get injured all the time. someone from AAA moved up because of injury, its time to replace him with the most deserving candidate. Why wait another month? Is it really going to hurt Carter? Is he that fragile that we have to worry that he can’t handle a little adversity if he dose not mash right away?
"Gratuitous gesticulating together sounds even better"
whats the rush, he's 22 with people ahead of him.
Plus Ryan Howard was 24 when he came up and 25 when he finally got extended playing time, I know he went to college, but he still spent a good amount of time in the minors,
Only because he was blocked by some guy...
named Thome.

I have to wonder what this means for his future prospects with this team. There is some serious depth at his position.
He didn't need to stretch that far though... the runner was out by a mile.

PREPAREDNESS_Because those goddamn zombies aren’t going to kill themselves
Oh really?
I’m at the Penngrove Pub almost every Tuesday!
I think he's the 42nd player the A's will have sent out there
this year. And we’re not yet to August with a host of September call-ups likely. Plus Duke. Team very likely to exceed 50 players at ML level this season— wonder how this compares to other down cycles like mid 1990s or early to mid 1980s.
I feel really bad for Barton.
And I still think he’s a better prospect than Everidge. But I’m still wishing Tommy the best!
I feel bad for Cahill and Anderson.
Two extreme groundball pitchers could look behind them in the very near future and see Wallace at 3B and Everidge at 1B. [shudders]
If only were actually getting ground balls...
I agree though. Fortunately, I doubt Everidge has much of a future with us, and any of Barton/Doolittle/Wallace should be a good defender at 1b, and Cardenas (who I still think is the long-term answer at 3rd) has a chance to be above average there.
He'd better be in the starting line-up tonight:
That’s what good manager do.
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."
