Tommy Everidge hitting .377
Last night Tommy Everidge went 4-6 with 2 home runs to raise his average to .377. Seems like he should get a shot with Oakland soon. With the addition of Wallace to the Rivercats the line-up in Sacramento is very strong. Everidge has only struck out 26 times in 141 abs, with 9 hrs and an OPS of 1.059. As a 10th rounder he doesn't have the prestige of some other prospects, but he's producing.
Ironically, the A's might have the best hitting AAA team and worst hitting MLB club at this point.

where does he play, though?
all i’ve read suggests he could play 1B, 3B, or DH. and as of right now, i don’t see him getting much PT at any of those 3 – maybe if kennedy and/or o-cab are traded, we could shift some people around. personally, i’d like to see what he could do at third and what barton can do at first for the rest of the season…he’s certainly earned a promotion.
He'll come up in September...
though i wish he’d get everyday ABs. How can he not get a chance?

beane has noticed
General manager Billy Beane said that Everidge, who is batting a team-high .367, will also continue to get playing time. “Hopefully, he keeps hitting like he’s hitting and we’ll figure out something,” Beane said. “The last couple of years, having too many good hitters has not been a problem.”
Like I said in my post yesterday, we should just send Barton down. Everidge needs to be up and up now. He’s not the only one that should be called up as well.

Barton is hitting under .100, I'd say it's time for Everidge to get his shot
McGwire belongs in the Hall so put him there

No he hasn't.

I’m done with him. I’d rather see him sent down in favor of Everidge.

Bunch of first 1Bs
We seem to have a bunch of good hitting 1Bs stashed away in the minors – Everidge, Chris Carter, and soon-to-be Brett Wallace. Give Barton until the September callups to see if he can hit. If not, it’s time to cut him loose and give others a chance to audition for 2010.
cut him loose?!?!?!?
pardon my french, but the guy is 23 fucking years old.
"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball
I think the A's are going to trade O-Cab
Then bring up Everidge, and put either he or Barton at 3B, move Kennedy to short. I’d believe in my idea more if I’d heard Kennedy was taking grounders at short, like Fosse made a point of telling us everytime they updated on Unicorn when he was coming back from injury.
Barton at 3B
Has Barton ever played 3B? My memory is fuzzy. I think Kennedy at SS is gonna be a nightmare.

Barton played two innings at third base in 2008.

defensively, that would probably be the worst
left side of the infield in the history of sports.
And then the A's pitching staff will organize a revolt and depose Geren and Beane
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
Depose, like this?
“OK Bob, where were you at 3pm when the lineup cards were made?”
“And Billy, what were you thinking — your best man, for crying out loud?”

But hes not
on the 40 man roster. The only way i see Everidge coming up is if Giambi goes on the 60 day dl
Good, put Giambi on the 60-day disabled list.

There's only 39 players on the 40-man right now
When is Sean Gallagher going to go to SD? Then, there will be 38 on the 40-man, giving Everidge as well as Duke a spot.
They say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing all the time!
Everidge this season to me is just like a right handed John Bowker
AAA Bow G: 80 Hr: 17 Obp: 448 Slg: 614 Ops: 1062
AAA Eve G: 41 Hr: 9 Obp: 424 Slg: 635 Ops: 1059
Both players were born in 83.
Give him a chance. He’s so hot right now.

Everidge reminds me of Wes Bankston,
who got a callup when he was hot, started out hot, and then showed why he wasn’t called up before. In other words, “Why not?” but at the same time, the A’s know that their major league team can’t hit, and if they thought Everidge could hit big league pitching like a .377 AAA hitter might be able to, they’d have called him up by now.

Minor league free agent.
Bankston signed out of high school, drafted in 2002. Minor-league contract lasts only seven seasons, so Bankston’s ran out at the end of 2008. A’s could have held on to him if they kept him on the 40-man roster, but they didn’t. They DFA’ed him in August, so when the season ended he became a free agent.
Anyone, including the A’s, could have signed him to a new contract. Cincinnati offered one and he took it. I believe he’s playing in AAA Louisville now.

Bankston sucked, by the way
He may have had some power, but his OBP in his 17 games with Oakland was .238. That’s not very good.

Everidge is often dismissed around here as too much of a defensive liability
to be of any use to the A’s. While his defense may be suspect, the final two months of a losing season is the time to see how a young player can do offensively, defense be damned. Everidge destroys left-handed pitching, something none of the current A’s are much good at. If Everidge can hit better than Garciaparra, Giambi, or Crosby, he makes this team better, period (its not like any of these players have a spot they excel at, glove-wise, to the point where they are better than all other defensive options). At this point his defense is totally irrelevant, whereas finding out what kind of bat he has is worth something going into the offseason.
Also fwiw, the Rivercats offense has rated in the lower middle-third of the PCL by most offensive metrics throughout the season. To suggest that Sacramento is the best-hitting team in AAA is incorrect.
Bob Garen is incontinent
+1 to the final two months is the time to find offense, defense be damned
If we were not the worst offense in the AL, maybe it would be different.
"Gratuitous gesticulating together sounds even better"
Barton's swinging the bat okay now
I actually like the way Barton’s been playing since he returned. He seems to have a little quicker bat and is swinging well. He is also a decent defender who hustles and is aggressive about trying to get the out at second on double plays. He looks a lot better than last year
