Have Chavez be a third base coach, fieldingwise.
Eric Chavez is likely done at third. In fact, he is done. That doesn't mean we can't bring him back as a third base coach. And I don't mean runningwise. I mean fieldingwise. We will probably call up a prospect to play third. This prospect will likely need some training at the big league level. And why not have a gold glove third baseman teach him? I mean, Eric Chavez has been a major part of our organization. Remember, he won six gold gloves, and he's the only guy left from the 1990's (beside's Giambi, but Giambi left for New York in the 2001-2002 offseason. And if Brett Wallace plays third, he'll need some help. Just like Rickey might come back, the sqame could happen with Chavez. By the way, I'm sorry if this is a stupid idea. I'll admit, I've come up with alot of stupid ideas.

I wouldn't mind seeing Springer as some sort of coach as well.

Not stupid at all
From Wash to Chavy, from Chavy to Brett. Chavy was obviously an apt pupil, maybe he could be a good teacher. But we’ll probably have to wait for Chavy to admit to himself that he’s done.

In a few days
I might do one about Ellis coming back when he retires. But that’s a long way down the road.

I would love Chavey as INF coach
Has a coach ever gone on the DL?

Haha
But he might be inclined to go after foul grounders and the like if he’s standing by what used to be his turf.
If Chavez does become a 3rd base coach, I will boldly predict 15 webgem appearances in his first season.

And he will somehow
Get one of our batters out on a grounder to 3rd…

well he's getting paid..
make him earn that money..even if its being on the grounds crew between innings

Chavy, 3B coach, frantically waving a runner around third:

that would help
as would putting wallace on a serious workout regimen – i’ve trained folks who lost 15-20 pounds in a totally healthy manner over a few months of working out, and i think he can as well. but he needs to be pushed to do this. because i don’t think wallace, at his size, will ever be a good 3B in the majors.
People continue to reference Wallace's weight
I don’t know about him sticking at 3rd, but the majority of scouts say that he’s much more athletic than his weight might lead you to believe.
Scott Rolen is pretty big too, but he’s the best defensive 3rd baseman of this generation. I’m obviously not saying Wallace turns into Rolen, but I am saying that his weight won’t prohibit him from developing defensively.
Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer
PaulThomas: I think Keith Law is only a fourth analyst
I hope you're right
and Wallace proves the grandstanders wrong. I’d prefer a solution to 3rd base sooner than later.

It's not a bad idea, but you have to realize that Chavez had some tools
Wallace doesn’t really have any defensive tools. As much as it would please me, I don’t see him sticking at 3rd.
If Wallace
plans on playing 3rd base in the majors he probably should get a conditioning trainer so he can slim down a bit. The guy looks like he has some good skills but if he doesn’t lose some weight he’ll probably end up being the a’s future dh.
I feel like you purposely posted this to annoy me
Am I right?
