Rickey Henderson day (8/1) tailgate?
This is short and sweet, but I just wanted to see what kind of interest there would be in an AN tailgate party before the game on August 1, when Rickey Henderson will have his number retired. There's a jersey giveaway, so I figured all of that would garner heavy AN interest. Why not have a beer or a burger while you wait for gates to open? The game starts at 6 p.m. I have no idea when the parking lot opens, but we could congregate somewhere shortly after that happens.

Remind me when I get back, but I'll be there early for the jersey anyways, so I'll at least tailgate from the line. ;)

How early
do y’all think we’ll need to get in line to get a Rickey jersey? And how possible would it be to establish a place in line and then rotate some people in and out so enjoyment of the tailgate could be shared? Is that a giveaway-day line taboo?

I think that sounds like a brilliant plan
and much better than my thought that I would grab a burger and beer and then stand in line by myself. A rotation system would be most excellent. :)
And it’s not taboo if we bring a couple extra beers for the nearest people behind us in line. ;)

I think
beers for nearby line-mates is brilliant, and brownies or cookies should seal the deal.

I actually had a question about
this game. I am interested in the tailgate, but I was also wondering how early you probably need to get there to ensure a jersey in whatever size you want.
I have gone to a few weekend giveaway days and know you gotta be pretty early, but I worry I’m going to have to get there at like 3p.m. this day to make sure I get a Rickey jersey (he is my favorite player of all-time). What say you, ANers?

I'm guessing...
Since the gates open at 4 p.m. for a 6 p.m. game, and given Rickey’s popularity, it would have to be earlier than 3 p.m. 2 maybe?

2pm for a 6pm game?
Oi. I don’t even get off work till 3pm and it takes me an hour+ to get to the Coli. I want a small Rickey jersey. I arrived an hour early for the Suzuki t-shirt and all they had left was X-Large (at the ’BART entrance)
Looks like I’ll have to head straight for the line and hope I can get my hands on one (even if it’s supersized)

In the end, I suppose it's best to get there too early
rather than too late
Eh, and it provides more time to down a few more cold beers while waiting

Size small
My experience has been that they run out of size small very, very early. I’ve only been lucky enough to get a small one time. If you’re an XL, your luck will be better. I do imagine that this will be the most popular giveaway of the season, though, so being in line at 2:00 doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.
Losing this team would be a huge failure for this city and an affront to Oakland’s great sports legacy.

I'm going to the 8/2 game,
otherwise I’d join you. If have to camp out for the banner, I just might. Wouldn’t that be nice to have at AN Day?

I wish I could be there.
Unfortunately I live in Minneapolis. But hey, I got to gloat to my friends. It was also fun seeing the StarTribune complain about the controversial play on Monday Night. Thanks A’s!

You might be right
about getting there at 2 p.m. I guess since the gates are opening at 4, that’s not so unfathomable, but I don’t like the idea of waiting around inside the stadium for 2 hours.
I also plan on going for the banner, so I suppose I will be doing a lot of sitting around outside the old concrete bowl next weekend.

Drink a beer for me
I’m flying in from LA, landing at 3:15, so won’t get to the park before 3:30-3:45.

2 PM!
I am not going to get there that early. I will arrive at 3 and hope.

Anyone know when the lot opens?
I’m coming in from Vegas, haven’t been to a game at the Coliseum for quite awhile. It used to be the lot opened 5 or 6 hours prior to game time, plenty of time for a great tailgate with plenty of time to get in line early. We are planning on arriving around 11:00 to get in line for the lot; but I want to make sure we’re not going to be stuck waiting until 3:00.
