A's Ink 3 16 year old Latin Prospects
Just thought I’d drop a post kicking off the first day of MLB’s international siging period. If anyone has any knowledge of the players listed below, please add your thoughts.
Wilfredo Jesus Solano (switch-hitting shortstop), Wilman Jose "Junior" Martinez (3rd baseman), and outfielder Alfred Alejandro Sosa.
The three players, all listed at 6-foot-1, are not eligible to play in the Dominican Summer League but are scheduled to work out in La Victoria -- the A's training complex in the Dominican Republic -- once they sign with the club this week. Here is the link

I've got a soft spot in my heart for some reason
for Dominican short stops…

You should probably get that seen to.
I’m still waiting for news that Green has signed.

Too bad these guys are Venezuelan
Also, I’ve heard that it is alost positive that Solano will move to third base. But I have seen Martinez listed as a SS but I don’t have any info on if he is projected to move.
your declaration does not affect my feelings on Dominican short stops.

Good news.
Any info on how much they signed for?
"I’m Joey Devine, I’m what Joba Chamberlain would be if he was good and nobody had ever heard of him."
Nothing official
But a couple days ago it was reported that Solano was expected to get about $750,000 which would be the highest bonus the A’s have ever paid to an international amatuer not named Ynoa.
SuSlu reports that the SS received 7 figs, but less than I(Y)noa. Evidently he’s pretty talented. She said it was a good year for Venezualan prospects, and the market for Dominican players (thanks in part to Ynoa signing) has gone up. She said to look for Aussie and Taiwanese players to possibly sign, too.

During the off-season, didn't the A's sign a teenage Australian catcher named Box?
I suppose he hasn’t played a game in the A’s minor league system yet.
If all goes well in signing most of the 2009 draft class, the A’s will have a lot of depth at the catcher position (Donaldson, Stassi, Leyland, Ortiz, Paramore, and this Box character).

The A's still need to think outside of him, though.

I'll take it
Solano seems like an interesting case, didn’t see his name mentioned anywhere in the pre-July 2 IFA hype, but then here the A’s are giving him seven figures. I take it he must be pretty darn good if that’s really the case.

I approve of this being the greatest sig line ever. VERY GOOD
What you fail to understand in your joyless myopia is that baseball is the key to life-- the Rosetta Stone, if you will. If you just understood baseball better all your other questions your, your... the, uh... the aliens, the conspiracies they would all, in their way be answered by the baseball gods.
Sure. That's it.
A super rich organization can get away with this type of exploitation, but just you try and ink three sixteen year old latina’s and see what the Federales have to say.
