Coming Out To The Coliseum...
With the team playing sub .500 ball, and the inevitable deadline deals awaiting, what keeps us, the fans, coming out to A's games? As a fan-base what do we want from the A's organization to keep fans interested and coming out to the Coliseum during the second half of 2009? I've got some thoughts of my own, but wanted to see what other AN readers had in mind....all ideas, no matter how out there, are welcome..

Lew won't like this answer
but its ‘wins,’ pure and simple
heck, they even started showing up in Tampa Bay once the Rays figured it out last year and turned it around
you can have a promotion every single day of season, at some point the actual product is the only thing that will keep those heads showing up
everybody likes to a part of a winner

I no longer live in
Northern California and since I’ve left I would come out every July and see as many A’s games as I could but not this year. I can’t justify the expense when the team is playing like this.
I saw the A’s earlier this season at the Ballpark in Arlington and I’m going to try and see them in KC in August if I can.
The A’s have drawn big in the past but it takes a winning team that has some personality to it and I think it’s fair to say this year’s team in 0-2 on that count.

Prepaid season tickets...
…the fact that my tickets have already been paid for will keep me coming out for the second half of the season. That, and my wife would kill me if she didn’t get her alone time.

I'm a fan.
So I’ll keep showing up, although not as much this year as in seasons past.

Would this help?

Because I am pretty certain it has helped Raider fans through six seasons of suckness.
I'm here to talk about the past.

That just might do the trick.
On second thought, that would definately get the job done.

just baseball
I go whether the A’s are good or bad. I’ve been a baseball fan for so long that I won’t be driven off by a few lousy years. High ticket prices or losing my current easy access would certainly affect my attendance, though. (and cheerleaders would definitely drive me away).
I’ve been lucky this year. A’s are 10-6 in games I’ve attended.

frightening thought
considering what happened on 10 cent beer night

I was just kidding...
but I bet that if they did the 10 cent beer night in Cleveland would be small potatoes compared to havoc our fans could wreak!

Honestly I don't think that many more would show up since you'd still have to buy tickets...
How much damage can a sub-10,000 person crowd really do?

Championship>Competing for Postseason>Wins>Competing in Games>Developing Future Team
Any of these would keep me going to the park. Obviously, the leftmost stuff is more desirable, but you have to have the stuff on the right dealt with first.
Right now it seems that the A’s competing in a fair amount of games, but they’re not really progressing to the left. I’d rather they take a step back and work on developing the future team instead of relying on aging veterans. They have their place, of course, but only if they’re filling in holes while you develop/trade for a long term solution. Playing time is the best thing to help the younger players to learn, or at least give management enough data to know that the player isn’t going to stick.
I want to see Giambi, Holliday, Cabrera, Kennedy and Nomar gone soon so that the young guys can play. At least reduce the veterans’ playing time to once or twice a week, more like a backup role. Even if they aren’t producing on the field, I know they can pass on their knowledge.
Attendance couldn’t really take much more of a hit than it already has this year, so I don’t think keeping the veterans in is going to help. If they were producing, that’d be different…..and then we wouldn’t really be having this conversation.

Seeing some good effin baseball for a change would help
There have been at least 6 games that I’ve had tix to that I didn’t go to this year because I’d rather be in the comfort of my living room watching the games on my big screen in HD. The overall experience at A’s games just downright suck, esp when we’re not playing a marquee team. I hate the Giants but I have more fun when I’m at their games. At this point, I’m not sure if i will be renewing my season tix for next season.
