Holliday to the Astros for Tejada?

If we traded Matt Holliday, we could trade him to Houston, then get Miguel Tejada back. He's not what he used to be, but he could still get the job done for us. This would eliminate a huge hole at shortstop. Plus, Tejada doesn't get injured very often. I'm sure the Astros could use a big hitter. And while many of you might think we should trade for prospects, we have some pretty good one's already. Miguel Tejada would be our shortstop until Carter or Cardenas comes up, then he would be a backup. To fill in for Matt Holliday, we would call up Travis Buck for the rest of the season and if he plays every day, we can see whether he is more consistent than being sent down every day.

uhh

Why would we trade Holliday for a someone who will be an FA this offseason?

by chri5 on Jul 16, 2009 4:58 PM PDT reply actions

Tejada is done. The A's need to trade Holliday for young players who can help for years

Half a season of Rickey would be worth showing up for alone.

I bet Wayne Gross would be available for 3B

In 2008 I was watching a team that was rebuilding. In 2009 I feel like I'm watching a team that just sucks.

What's the point?

We can sign Tejada in the offseason if we want.

then

we’ll sign holliday and trade them both. trading is fun!

by chipper1001 on Jul 16, 2009 5:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I wouldn't do this.

Tejada’s contract is up after the season and could probably be had in the FA market without spending much. It makes more sense to flounder this season with OCab (because the money is already spent) and just work this season out with what the team has.

I would like to see the Athletics try and keep Holliday by attempting to resign him. If he doesn’t want to resign in Oakland, then the two supplementals would be nice for the 2010 draft. If he does resign — even if for just a year — then the team’s OF is set with big sticks.

by LowcountryJoe on Jul 16, 2009 5:25 PM PDT reply actions

I'm not going to bother ripping this.

I’ll just say this. Holliday is a MUCH BETTER player than Tejada. And they’re both impending FAs.

Who's more this season?

PlayerA: 328/356/471

PlayerB: 277/371/428

And PlayerA can probably play a pretty decent 3B. Just sayin.

I understand

Holliday is a lot more valuable than Tejada. I’m just frustrated with Holliday’s season.

I love the trade

as long as Tejada drives back to Oakland in a DeLoren so he can go back in time to 2002.

Let’s see if they can cram Nomar, Giambi and Chavez in there as well and drive around the Coliseum parking lot ’till it all works out.

I like the idea of getting Tejada back

but I would not make him the center piece of any trade deal. And It would also probably end up like the Giambi signing, dissapointing.

lol. Well, on your first idea....

of trading Holliday for Tejada the obvious answer is no. Plain and simple. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

However, to answer the question of whether we should trade Holliday to the ‘Stros: sure. I don’t know why they would want him, as they have a pretty solid group of Lee/Bourn/Pence. It wouldn’t make sense for them but…whatever…lol. I think they could put up a solid offer for Holliday if they were motivated too…it would have to be centered around a guy like Lyles and maybe Bourn…which again wouldn’t make sense for the ’Stros…

But, in general that idea of yours wasnt very well thought out. Pretty stupid idea…no offense lol. But keep the ideas coming…just do a little research first!

Is this the first case of a trade that actually sucks for the A's being proposed?

Normally it’s something like Crosby for Hanley straight up. So props to you, Oaktown123, for giving us a different type of shitty trade proposal.
