2 former A's....
Nelson Cruz and Carlos Pena would be nice in the middle of our lineup right about now….

As would non-all star cheap guys like
Ethier, Scuturo, and Ludwick
by OmahaHi on Jul 13, 2009 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
ethier
without milton bradley, the a’s probably dont make the 2006 playoffs, much less the alcs. that was a great trade, it’s just too bad ethier ended up being really good

ya Texas sure played Bradley right last year. DH is a perfect spot for him
Ron as his manager didn’t hurt as well.

Scutaro would be nice
But I’ll take what Ted Lilly gave rather than what Carlos Pena gave (the A’s, Tigers, Red Sox and Yankees). And without dealing Ludwick, there would be no Pena and then no Lilly… what a tangeled web

Nelson Cruz
Billy Beane traded him Keith Ginter, are you kidding me?
What about Barry?
"Barry who?" Forst said, and I felt like I was in the middle of a knock-knock joke.
by KMoAsFan on Jul 13, 2009 5:22 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
remember Ginter, with 14 and 19 HR in the 2 prior years with the Brewers, was an established up-and-coming talent who played 2B & 3B. Then he sucked. If he took off like Jeff Kent did he’d be at the All-Star game right now. So it goes…

totally OT
if the Cubs declare bankruptcy as the press is talking, can they terminate contracts for Soriano, Bradley, etc?
Oh, but if I catch a line drive by a girl, that’s girl-on-girl action, the twiceness is eliminated, and it just counts once - gigglingone
by closetasfan on Jul 13, 2009 5:29 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't know the answer to that
Are players counted as employees of the club or of MLB?
either way, it’s unbelievable that they’ve let themselves get into this sort of position, i mean, it’s not like the detroit car companies where people are buying different, cheaper, more foreign cars, but rather people are still packing out that ballpark – terrible financial planning.
Though, it would amuse me if the government bailed them out, and as the new owners renamed them the Chicago Obamas
by bobnothing on Jul 13, 2009 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would think they would just sell the team, new owner gets old contracts.
In theory a bankruptcy judge could do anything. MLB might step in at that point and guarantee payment of contracts for the integrity of the game.
by OmahaHi on Jul 13, 2009 5:38 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I could have just sworn hearing that MLB was giving loans to a team - Washington maybe? - so they could meet Payroll

See, the reason why Jack Cust would be great at the HR derby
is because his turn would last for about two hours as he took pitch upon pitch.
This would be a great sight to see.

Can we have a day when we pretend all the A's players are really good?
I mean, it’s going to be a few days before reminded of the fact they’re terrible again.
However, I’m hoping that Jack Cust does take this time to make his back feel better (note: this may or may not be a euphamism for taking PEDs, it’s too hot for me to decide) and he breaks out of his slump.

They’re the 1-2 punch of announcers who I’ll actually mute. Morgan first, because he’s a dolt, and Joe Buck a bit behind – mostly due to the OMG I’m so horrified Randy Moss pretended to moon the fans reaction that went on for 20 min.

a few old Moneyball bits
“When the Milwaukee Brewers take Prince Fielder with the seventh pick – the room explodes. It means that Scott Kazmir probably will be available to the Mets, and he is, and the Mets take him.”
“Prince Fielder just saved our paint,” – veteran scout referring to Milwaukee’s choice of Fielder.
“Even the fat players who don’t work for the A’s do the A’s work.”
“No one has any idea what the Detroit Tigers or Milwaukee Brewers who pick seven and eight, intend to do. Something not terribly bright.”
“Here’s an astonishing fact, Prince Fielder is too fat even for the Oakland A’s. Of no other baseball player in the whole of North America can this be said.”
