As I mentioned during the post-game thread, I'm fascinated by how low the A's averages are for the big league club. I'm not looking for everyone to be above .300 or to have a dozen homers right now, but I would like to have something around average. How about some .270 guys. Maybe that's too much to ask. Let's see how our boys did last night
| Salt Lake
Patterson 2B: 1-5, R, 2B, SO
Denorfia RF: 2-4, BB
Barton 1B: 1-4, R, RBI, BB, SO .224
Munson C: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 SO .268
Gonzalez G (W, 2-1): 6 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 5 SO 3.50 ERA Two impressive starts in a row. Here's the thing--in his last two starts he has limited hits allowed giving up 4 in 13 IP. But duing that time he has given up 5 BB and 13 Ks. So the walks haven't hurt him yet. I would love to see him pitch to that contact and throw a few games with fewer walks.
Marshall and Gray came in for relief and went 1.2 IP, H, 4 K Nice hold and save.
Midland: This was a busy game for our Rockhounds...again! Here's the line-up.
| NW Arkansas
Gilbert CF: 3-4, 3 R, 2 BB, SB (14) .322 He has an awesome 24:16 BB:K ratio this season. He's been incredibly consistent this season. Archie
Horton SS: 3-5, 3 R, RBI, BB, SO .299
Carter 1B: 1-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB .291
Everidge DH: 1-2, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 BB .303
Cardenas 2B: 2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 SO .374
Donaldson C: 1-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, SO .287
Spencer LF: 1-5, R, HR, 4 RBI, SO .222
Valdez A 3B: 2-4, R, HR, RBI, BB, SO
Sulentic RF: 2-5, 2 R
Hernandez, C (W, 3-0) 5 IP, 11 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. 4.50 ERA That's a lot of hits. Batters are hitting .360 off of him in AA
| San Jose
Weeks 2B: 1-4, 2B, SO .333
Vitters 3B: 1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB .277
Hornbeck (L, 1-2) 4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K 4.30 ERA Few too many baserunners last night, but the Ks are nice to see.
| Kane County
Chris Berroa LF: 0-4 First start of the season. Drafted in the 11th round last season and batted .311 in 45 AB during his stint in the Arizona League. Here are his numbers during his senior year of high school. Chris
Kleen 1B: 1-3, 2 R, BB
Desme CF: 1-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, 2 K .284 Slugging over .500 but a 30% K rate.
Barfield RF: 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, SO .348 .462 over his last 10 games. He is pretty hot right now and he's starting to hit quite a few doubles.
Smalley (W, 5-1) 6 IP, 5 H, BB, 4 K 1.69 ERA On a very nice roll, K:BB of 47:14 on the season in 42.2 IP. Hitters are hitting only .197 off of his right now. Kenny
For those that are able to go to Midland games, I can't imagine the difference from watching them and the A's. Looking at the line-up, even with out Corey Brown, is a scary sight. Given the guys in our minors, who has the potential to hit at least .270 and be a serviceable major leaguer. Remember the last 4 hitters in our line-up last night, that highest average was about .213 or so coming in.
